The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Thursday, May 30th, 2024, at 1:12 PM EDT.
On Thursday, the Last Quarter Moon is exact when the Sun in Gemini forms a square with the Moon in Pisces.
The Last Quarter Moon phase points to a crisis of consciousness of sorts. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again.
This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of what was conceived at the last New Moon. We might consider our recent revelations and process what they mean to us.
The chart:
This phase of the Moon occurs at 9 degrees and 46 minutes of Pisces square the Sun at the same degree of Gemini, and affecting people with personal planets and points at 8 to 12 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Gemini; Mercury is in Taurus; Venus is in Gemini; Mars is in Aries.
The Sun is in Gemini from May 20-June 20. Knowledge and diversity motivate us with the Sun in Gemini. We are more sociable, intellectual, and insatiably curious under this influence. Due to this curiosity and awareness of all our options, we tend to scatter our energies. We are more communicative and versatile, but we can also be unreliable.
Gemini represents duality and mediation. Gemini’s energy is intelligent, optimistic, observant, and adaptable. It’s skeptical, ready to consider alternate ways of thinking. We’re prepared to trade, share, exchange, pass on news, teach, guide, and learn.
We gather information during the Sun-in-Gemini cycle, and we benefit from this transit’s objectivity. We’re quick-witted, cheerful, engaging, and we easily adapt, observe, and listen–it’s a clever and crafty influence.
On the downside, we can be gossipy, overly intellectual, or too rational when a softer touch would be more appropriate. As we relay and process information, we could be living too much in our heads, disconnected from what’s in our hearts.
Mercury is in Taurus from May 15-June 3. When Mercury is in Taurus, our thinking is down to earth, solid, and grounded. Common sense reigns over more fanciful thinking. We communicate more deliberately under this influence, and our minds are oriented to the world of the five senses. We prefer the tried and true rather than new ways of thinking.
Attention to one thing at a time can simplify our lives, but we may be in danger of narrow, overly conservative, or rigid thinking. It’s a time of practical intelligence and comfortably-paced decisions and thought processes. We’re capable of (and content with) rote, routine, deliberate, or monotonous work and methods.
Venus is in Gemini from May 23-June 17. With Venus in Gemini, we have a finger in every pie. Curiosity motivates us on romantic and social levels. “Variety is the spice of life” is the motto now. We are friendly, communicative, charming, and interested.
While it’s a time when we can be animated and fun, we may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions often begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level while Venus is in Gemini. We’re most attracted to mentally interesting people. Sometimes, our curiosity leads us into relationships that we might not form otherwise. The shadow side of Gemini is fickleness or disinterest in profundity.
Venus in Gemini is flirtatious, captivating, and adaptable. We ask questions and want to keep things light and lively. During this transit, we do best when we’re mentally engaged and our desire for variety is addressed. Social stimulation is appealing. Good fortune with transportation and communication can figure strongly.
Mars is in Aries from April 30-June 9. Mars feels at home in Aries, one of the signs that it rules, and therefore its power is boosted. Our energy is spontaneous, forward-looking, and even courageous under this influence. Our competitive spirit is well-developed, and our goal is to win! We are active, single-minded, and confident.
Our actions are direct–we instinctively find the fastest way to get from point A to point B. The shadow side of Mars in Aries is a tendency to be impatient, arrogant, impulsive, short-lived, unreflective, and self-centered.
We pursue our goals straightforwardly, confidently, unabashedly, and directly with Mars in Aries. The same goes for expressing anger. We want to be first, come first, and do things on our own–our independence, enterprise, and initiative are well-developed.
This transit is better for endeavors that require courage and strong but not necessarily sustained passion and energy. We don’t want to look back or overthink–we only concern ourselves with what we can accomplish right now. Not inclined to beat around the bush, we confidently pursue our desires.
Jupiter is in Gemini.
Jupiter began its transit of Gemini on May 24th, 2024, and continues its transit of the sign until June 9th, 2025. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Gemini.
Saturn transits Pisces from March 7th, 2023 until May 24th, 2025, and Sep 1st, 2025, to Feb 13th, 2026. Read about Saturn’s transit of Pisces.
Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Pluto transitions from Capricorn to Aquarius in 2023 and 2024. Read about Pluto’s transit of Aquarius. Pluto retrograded back into Capricorn, and was in Capricorn until January 20th, 2024. Pluto is in Aquarius from January 20th to September 1st, when it will retreat into Capricorn once again. Note: Pluto is slow-moving through the zodiac signs!
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Gemini from May 23-June 17. In Gemini, Venus is communicative, sociable but emotionally aloof, insatiably curious, and a little bit flighty. Fickleness with our affections is a strong possibility, but the desire for a meeting of minds is strong and the urge to socialize dominates. Some detachment from our emotions is likely, which may be a breath of fresh air for some. The lines of communication open, although we may only scratch the surface of things. Under this influence, love is playful and lighthearted. Fickleness is the shadow side of Venus in Gemini.
This week: On Tuesday and Wednesday, we might watch for impulsiveness and impatience. Someone may be pushy or crude when we crave something more refined or subtle, or someone is being subtle when we crave a more straightforward approach. At the same time, there can be some reluctance to commit.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes natural now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. (The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular.) A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Venus trine Pluto May 24-25. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships are intense and deep, but not draining.
Venus semi-square Mars May 28-29. Tensions in relationships. Attempting to satisfy romantic needs and assertive/sexual needs simultaneously can be challenging.
Venus semi-square Chiron May 28-29. Love cannot be forced. This is not a commitment-friendly transit, as we may feel alienated for no apparent reason and unwilling to give of ourselves.
Venus sextile the North Node June 3-4. There is a stronger desire to connect to and belong with others at this time. We are more obliging and sociable.
Venus conjunct the Sun June 3-4. Good relating is the focus, although some may find this energy superficial in that surface charm, diplomacy, and harmony is the goal. The pursuit of pleasure is emphasized.
Venus parallel the Sun June 4-5. A strong desire for harmony and comfort fill us now. We may be moved to express our affections.
Venus contra-parallel Pluto June 6. Romantic intensity, a feeling of fatedness, possessiveness, fear of betrayal, and insecurity in relationships. Questions of trust can emerge in relationships. Looking for a commitment.
Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto June 6. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.
Venus square Saturn June 7-8. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship–new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus sextile Chiron June 10-11. Love has the power to heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings and more willing to act upon them.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, May 27th, from 4:02 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Neptune), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 4:45 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, May 29th, from 10:20 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Pisces at 8:33 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, May 31st, from 10:55 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Neptune), until the Moon enters Aries at 11:29 PM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waning this week until the Full Moon on the 23rd, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week on Monday, May 27th, from approximately 12:40 AM to 4:00 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Capricorn. Another window occurs on Friday, May 31st, from approximately 1:40 PM to 10:50 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Pisces.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun semi-square Chiron. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong, but may be hampered by a lack of confidence or a fear of being different.
Mercury sextile Saturn. A good time to get organized, to do detail work, and to prepare for the future. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now will have tangible results in the future.
Venus semi-square Mars. Potential tensions in relationships. Attempting to satisfy romantic needs and assertive/sexual needs simultaneously can be challenging. Be wary of making impulse purchases. There is an air of competitiveness under this influence, which need not be difficult. It can be stimulating and invigorating.
Venus semi-square Chiron. Blocks to intimacy are possible now as we focus on differences rather than similarities in our relationships with others. We might have a hard time learning from one another as a result.
Mars conjunct Chiron. We may have the opportunity to take the lead, or to take action, regarding matters that lead to healing, cleansing, or teaching now. This can be a time of a release of suppressed energies. We can feel a sense of mission. There is likely to be a feeling of fearlessness when it comes to addressing problem areas, and self-confidence as well. There is a drive to take positive action, usually to defend or help others (or ourselves).
Mercury conjunct Uranus. The ability to grasp intellectual concepts is high right now. Our intuition is spot-on, and we tend to have the right idea at the right moment. The senses may be overloaded, to the point that we are scatter-brained, impulsive, nervous, or impatient. If channeled well, however, our ideas are inventive, original, progressive, and unbiased.

MAY 26
We can be more resolved, determined, and goal-oriented than usual today. With a sensible Capricorn Moon all day, we seek order and structure, and our careers, reputations, and objectives are in focus. Situations that require us to keep a cool head work best under this influence since we’re not easily swept away by our feelings. We’re inclined to buckle down and work, organize, and plan.
However, around the Moon-Mars square tonight, we can be temperamental. We might battle a simultaneous need to do our own thing. With a Mars-Vesta square today, energy and discipline clash, making it difficult to accomplish what we want to do or leading to overwork. This transit might inflame commitment and loyalty issues in our relationships or with projects, especially with the Moon square to Mars tonight.
MAY 27
The Moon continues its transit of practical Capricorn until 4:45 PM EDT, and today’s Mercury-Saturn sextile echoes a realistic theme. With this transit, we’re alert, pragmatic, and busy. Thoroughness brings rewards. Mercury-Saturn helps ground us mentally. Reasoning things logically and step by step can be beneficial and even soothing. This aspect promotes a deliberate and efficient approach to the world around us. We see the benefits of organizing, making lists, attending to details, and making sound judgments and decisions.
Today’s Sun-Chiron semi-square is a bit awkward, however. While we strongly desire to learn and grow through our relationships and experiences, a lack of confidence or a fear of being different can hinder this urge. Still, we’re learning, getting a better understanding of our goals, and becoming more aware of how they support or conflict with our need for independence and personal growth. The Aquarius Moon from 4:45 PM EDT forward is fair-minded, impartial, and friendly.
The Moon is void from 4:02 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Neptune), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 4:45 PM EDT.
MAY 28
Jupiter forms a quintile with Saturn today, and we are clever at putting our goals into action. With this longer-term transit, we have a strong sense of timing and want to design and plan things competently. There is both cleverness and common sense in our designs and ideas now. We’re attracted to the unique, extraordinary, and uncommon with today’s Aquarius Moon. We can be emotionally detached when the situation calls for it. Importantly, we’re also understanding and visionary, inclined to analyze or philosophize.
MAY 29
Today’s Mars-Chiron conjunction connects us with a mission. We may have the opportunity to take the lead or take action regarding matters leading to healing, cleansing, or guiding. It can be a time of releasing suppressed energies. With this dynamic transit, we’re ready to address problem areas. We might take steps to boost our self-confidence, body image, and relationship with independence. Venus forms semi-squares with Mars and Chiron, spotlighting differences in our approaches, desires, and needs, which could mean some strained relationship dynamics. It’s best to watch for stirring the pot, temperamentality, or impulsive moves. If we’re creative with this energy, and the Mars-Chiron alignment makes it easy to be, we might make it work through a concerted effort to learn from the differences.
The Moon is void from 10:20 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Pisces at 8:33 PM EDT.
MAY 30
The Moon spends the day in perceptive, compassionate Pisces. The Last Quarter Moon occurs at 1:13 PM EDT, when the Sun in Gemini forms a square to the Pisces Moon. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to a possible crisis of consciousness. We’ve processed recent epiphanies, and we are starting to see what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon when something new is born again. It’s not an ideal time to start a significant project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. Instead, it’s time to handle details or tie up loose ends.
This day’s astrological influences present both challenges and rewards, offering the potential for personal growth and innovative thinking, but also the risk of impulsive or impatient behavior. Mercury and Uranus are heading into alignment, exact very early tomorrow, leading to interesting, unexpected, and inspiring ideas, mental detours, and conversations. We can feel inspired to think and connect or communicate in new, fresh ways. It can be a time of mental breakthroughs and perhaps nervous energy. We’re not content merely recycling old ideas or performing repetitive processes; we are quick to adopt progressive approaches and methods. We might stir things up or shock others with our opinions, ideas, and communications. Our senses may overload to the point that we are forgetful or impatient. However, if channeled well, we can arrive at incredibly inventive, original, progressive, and unbiased ideas and methods.
MAY 31
The Moon spends most of the day in Pisces, stirring our need for spiritual refreshment or escape. This is a crucial time for decompressing, winding down, and tapping into our intuition. While the Moon-Saturn alignment may feel heavy or serious this morning, we’re in a phase of the lunar month where we’re processing and digesting recent events. Engaging in activities that facilitate forgiveness, healing, detoxification, or relaxation can be particularly beneficial. Tonight, the Moon’s alignment with Neptune is a beacon of compassion and spirituality. Nurturing our imaginative side can be deeply rewarding. The Pisces Moon, at its best, is a source of wisdom, but can also be evasive when faced with challenges. However, with the transition to the Aries Moon from 10:55 PM onwards, we’re preparing for action or new beginnings. This Moon is bold, confident, and enterprising.
The Moon is void from 10:55 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Neptune), until the Moon enters Aries at 11:29 PM EDT.
JUNE 1
The Sun is quintile Neptune today, and we’re gracious, giving one another the benefit of the doubt. It can feel terrific to put our faith in someone or something now, and we’re inclined to see the spiritual dimensions or imaginative elements of our pursuits. Still, the Moon is in active, assertive Aries all day, and we crave some movement and excitement. We’re connecting with our enterprising side or initiative. Tonight, the Moon aligns with the North Node, reminding us to improve. We’re learning to embrace our individuality and assert ourselves confidently.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Gemini The cycle which begins for you now will be marked by a more intense focus on mental and communicative activity than you may ever have experienced before. It’s a time of more involvement with other people, a time for gathering information, and a time when you’re apt to be more on the go than ever. There is likely to be an emphasis on reading, writing, studying, and all forms of exchanging information with others in the years ahead – and it will all serve as a path for self-discovery and personal development.
Mercury in Taurus “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” – that’s the key to the way you think at a time like this. Practical, utilitarian ideas are the ones that make the most sense now – putting them to good use is a focus for you. Material things are foremost on your mind in many respects: an emphasis on the real rather than the ideal.
Mars in Aries Fresh challenges and initiatives light your fires now, as a new cycle begins in your life – lots of energy, a powerful urge to be first or come out on top. Away with the old and on to the new – let no one and nothing stand between you and your objective! Headstrong impulses and rash courage can take you far … sometimes in harm’s way, if you’re not careful.
Jupiter in Gemini Facilitating the transfer of ideas and information takes on a special priority for you now. Writing, studying, and communicating play a bigger role in your life as a result. The belief that well-informed people will make the right decisions becomes an article of faith. Just remember: sometimes people know the right thing to do and STILL do something different!
Saturn in Pisces Making peace with the past, coming to terms with karmic debts: these are some of the issues that confront you as a new phase begins in your life. Failure to face these things can cause setbacks and put obstacles in your path. Learn to look beyond the narrowly personal and selfish or you’ll get in over your head.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life. Tradition becomes irrelevant, and the conventional wisdom is revealed as dogma or outright nonsense – and what’s the difference, really? Radical changes in all things social and intellectual.
