The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Monday, April 1st, 2024, at 11:14 PM EDT.
On Monday night, the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Aries forms a square with the Moon in Capricorn.
The Last Quarter Moon phase points to a crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again.
This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean to you? What can be done now?
This phase of the Moon occurs at 12 degrees and 52 minutes of Capricorn square the Sun at the same degree of Aries, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 11 to 15 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Aries; Mercury is in Aries; Venus is in Pisces until April 4th, when Venus is in Aries; Mars is in Pisces.
The Sun is in Aries from March 19-April 19. In Aries, the Sun is enthusiastic and spontaneous. We are motivated by the desire to conquer. We are more impulsive and have the urge to initiate, innovate, and come first.
Aries is a sign that bounces back quickly–there is little in the way of shame with Aries. It is brave and pioneering, and somewhat innocent. We are direct and rather uncomplicated in our needs, but we can also be short-sighted and lack the desire to plan ahead.
Mercury is in Aries from March 9-May 15. When Mercury is in Aries, we are less concerned with objective viewpoints and explanations, and more concerned with reaching a decision…quickly! Our thoughts and ideas are pioneering, and we tend to speak more spontaneously and directly with the planet of communication in bold and assertive Aries.
There can be quick, possibly impatient or hurried, decisions during this cycle, and our responses are similar: quick and perhaps defensive or combative. We value independent thought, and we can be mentally competitive. executive decisions. We prefer to learn through personal experience, not instruction.
Venus is in Pisces from March 11-April 4. Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate, although hard to reach, as there is a longing for something that is difficult to define and hard to satisfy. Borders and boundaries blur under Venus in Pisces. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be deceived because we want to believe, as well as evasiveness. We should watch for falling in love with an idealized image of something or someone. It’s also important to watch for avoidant or indirect behavior.
Venus is exalted in Pisces and does well in the sign. It’s devoted, compassionate, exceptionally giving, and capable of sacrifice. We might refer heavily on our intuition with our finances and love life during this cycle. We gravitate to–and appreciate–unusual, tossed aside, poetic, artistic objects, situations, and people. We seek activities that move, inspire, or touch us.
Money may slip through our fingers, or we could ignore or overlook some of the practical elements of our lives now. However, finances improve if we connect with our otherworldly talents, imagination, desire to heal and serve, or sense of mission.
This transit is not particularly strong for resolve or determination, but it’s good for adaptability and increased understanding or acceptance.
Venus is in Aries from April 4-29. With Venus in Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don’t look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past–it’s a brand new day! It’s time to make things work right now.
Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt–there’s no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to the sign. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.
While Venus is in Aries, we gravitate to Aries-like activities, pleasures, pastimes, and objects of interest. Our tastes can veer toward action, new enterprise, conquests, courageous or daring acts, and so forth. We can be somewhat impulsive with our money or entertainment choices.
Our interests can be insistent and strong, but possibly short-lived. It’s not the best time for holding onto money. We might pour our resources too quickly into new ventures or projects but tire of these things just as rapidly.
Mars is in Pisces from March 22-April 30. During this cycle, we are less interested in pursuing traditional goals and more motivated to pursue spiritual or emotional drives. We dislike confrontation while Mars is in Pisces. Our output is variable rather than straightforward, and our energy is similarly up and down.
We may prioritize others’ needs over our own, and our more idealistic side may emerge. During this cycle, pursuing what we want becomes less straightforward and more complicated!
However, compassion drives us while Mars is in Pisces. We can be spiritual warriors, or we achieve our goals intuitively and with faith. We can be chameleons, adapting to the current situation quite expertly, although we can also be escape artists, preferring to avoid rather than confront. Our behavior may be passive-aggressive, or we fight for ourselves through confusing or placating our opponent.
Jupiter is in Taurus.
Jupiter begins its transit of Taurus on May 16th, 2023, and it will continue its transit of the sign until May 25th, 2024. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Taurus.
Saturn transits Pisces from March 7th, 2023 until May 24th, 2025, and Sep 1st, 2025, to Feb 13th, 2026. Read about Saturn’s transit of Pisces.
Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Pluto transitions from Capricorn to Aquarius in 2023 and 2024. Read about Pluto’s transit of Aquarius. Pluto retrograded back into Capricorn, and was in Capricorn until January 20th, 2024. Pluto is in Aquarius from January 20th to September 1st, when it will retreat into Capricorn once again. Note: Pluto is slow-moving through the zodiac signs!
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Pisces from March 11-April 4. Like Aquarius, Pisces love is universal. However, Pisces draws no bounds in love. With Venus in Pisces, we have compassion (and perhaps attraction) for those who are left out, overlooked, or victimized. We are self-sacrificing, and we have a hard time setting up borders. The walls go down, we have a hard time saying no (especially if our compassion is engaged), but we are also prone to avoiding all that makes us feel uncomfortable.
Wishful thinking is one expression of Venus in Pisces. We can too easily believe what we want to believe. People can be hard to pin down, and love is hard to define under this influence. Pisces never sees the world in black-and-white terms. Rather, Pisces sees all the colors of the rainbow. With the goddess of love in Pisces, our love is all-embracing, we are able to forgive and understand, we are seducible and seductive, and we show compassion to our partners.
Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate, although hard to reach nevertheless, as there is a longing for something that is hard to define and hard to satisfy. Borders and boundaries blur under Venus in Pisces. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be deluded, as well as evasiveness.
Venus is in Aries from April 4-29. In Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don’t look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. It’s a brand new day! It’s time to make things work right now.
Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt–there’s no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to Aries. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.
This week: On Tuesday and Wednesday, a yearly alignment between Venus and Neptune occurs, and we’re especially sensitive to and aware of beauty and spirituality. We’re seducible and can be seductive. This is a psychically open time, but also a period when we may be seeing what we want to see rather than what is. It can be a highly romantic time, and we can be more understanding and compassionate with one another. This energy is even stronger with these planets also parallel.
On Friday and Saturday, we seek a deep love in which we can merge souls and personalities with our lover. We are quite devoted to our partners, and we seek such devotion in return. A Venus-Pluto sextile supports intimacy, understanding, and depth in our connections. This is a strong week for relationships.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Pisces A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you’re now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships … very aesthetic, very other-worldly.
Venus in Aries Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you’re eager to accept – and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness – or the happiness of pursuit?
Venus contra-parallel the Sun March 29-30. We are more strongly aware of our relationships (or lack) and the pride they give us. Dissatisfaction experienced now is likely due to inner discontent and yearning for more appreciation from our partners. Going out of our way to make others feel wanted, appreciated, and recognized is appropriate now.
Venus semi-sextile Mercury April 2. It may be all too easy to say things we don’t mean/feel.
Venus conjunct and parallel Neptune April 2-3. New and fresh beginnings on romantic levels characterize this transit. Heightened sensitivity to, and awareness of, beauty and spirituality. We are easily influenced, seducible and seductive, and given to strong powers of imagination. We are more attuned to the world of beauty and romance. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A “magical” time on a romantic and social level, but it could also be a confusing or illusory influence as well. Psychic openness and compassion.
Venus sextile Pluto April 5-6. Subtly powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, March 31st, from 8:17 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Neptune), until the Moon enters Capricorn the next day, Monday, April 1st, at 12:06 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, April 3rd, from 1:41 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Neptune), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 5:08 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, April 5th, from 1:40 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mercury), until the Moon enters Pisces at 7:13 AM EDT.

April 2024:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waning this week, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week on Wednesday, April 3rd, from approximately 1:10 AM to 1:40 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Capricorn. Another window occurs from Thursday, April 4th, at approximately 5:30 PM EDT, until Friday, April 5th, at approximately 1:35 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Aquarius. Another window of opportunity occurs this week from Saturday, April 6th, at approximately 1:15 PM EDT, until Sunday, April 7th, at approximately 4:20 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Pisces. Mercury is retrograde during these windows. As well, they occur in between eclipses, and our judgment is not up to par, or information is hidden.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Venus conjunct Neptune. New and fresh beginnings on creative levels characterize this transit. Heightened sensitivity to, and awareness of, beauty and spirituality. We are easily influenced, seducible and seductive, and given to strong powers of imagination. We are more attuned to the world of beauty and romance today. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A “magical” time on a romantic and social level, but it could also be a confusing or illusory influence as well. Psychic openness and compassion.
Mercury semi-square Mars. We are quick-witted and ready to argue under this influence. We may be working under stressful or hectic conditions, as we feel pressure to get things done quickly. We are inclined to be snappy and irritable, and we may too easily interrupt others rather than listen. Conflicts of interest are likely.
Venus sextile Pluto. If we seize the opportunity, this is a good time for both finances and relationships. The feelings are impassioned, but not in an offensive or unpleasant way. We are focused and confident, and we appreciate depth of feeling and authenticity in our dealings with others.

MARCH 31
The Moon spends the day in Sagittarius, inspiring us to explore, experience, and expand our options. This transit sparks our desire to learn and discover, and a change of scenery or break in the routine appeals. We’re curious, adventurous, and spirited. The Sagittarius Moon is forward-looking, and with its aspects today, we’re more idealistic than usual, perhaps expecting a lot from our lives. Optimism is one of the positive themes of the day; neglecting to see the essential details of a plan is a potential weakness. With Mercury about to station and turn retrograde (tomorrow), it’s a good idea to take in rather than make hard and fast decisions.
The Moon is void from 8:17 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Neptune), until the Moon enters Capricorn tomorrow, Monday, April 1st, at 12:06 AM EDT.
APRIL 1
Shortly into the day, the Moon enters Capricorn, and we seek to be more organized, responsible, and on top of things. However, the Last Quarter Moon occurs tonight when the Capricorn Moon forms a square to the Aries Sun, and our sense of responsibility or the proper/mature path can conflict with our personal plans. Now and until the New Moon/Solar Eclipse on the 8th, starting a significant project is not ideal. Instead, it’s time to finish details and tie up loose ends. We can channel the quarter Moon’s crisis-oriented energy into productivity or stress ourselves out.
While the Capricorn Moon seeks clarity, cloudy thinking or confusion can figure strongly today with Mercury stationing and turning retrograde. Communication can be tricky, and it can be hard to focus on cold, hard facts. Mercury will remain retrograde until April 25th and will stay in the sign of Aries for the duration. During this time, our thinking turns inward as we review and re-assess matters. Mercury retrograde periods can be times of heightened inner awareness, when meditation, benefiting from keeping a journal, reworking old plans, and reviewing past work are favored. Minor breaks in the mechanical aspects of communication can reconnect us to other, possibly more meaningful, means of communication. We might look at past decisions and ideas from a new, enlightened perspective.
It can be a time of tension, however, as Mercury in Aries wants immediate answers and retrograde Mercury can point to delays and indecision. We should be especially careful with our choice of topics and wording. The chances of sharp or brusque comments doing some damage run high. With Mercury in Aries, we prefer to learn from hands-on experience rather than instruction, and not listening during this Mercury retrograde period can be especially costly. Keep in mind that Mercury in Aries’ haste to communicate (or perhaps more accurately, to get communications out of the way) can work against us or can be more consequential during Mercury retrograde. There can be texts or emails sent to the wrong people, for example, or quick commentary that’s considered careless. It’s crucial to be cautious and attentive in our communication during this period.
The Moon is void today only until 12:06 AM EDT, when it enters Capricorn.
APRIL 2
With a Capricorn Moon, we strive for increased self-sufficiency today. We’re more goal-oriented and particularly aware of our responsibilities and performance. Practical matters are in the spotlight. While we tend to stick with the traditional or tried-and-true with this transit, the Moon’s harmony with Jupiter and Uranus points to a simultaneous desire to grow, improve, and advance. Today’s Mercury-Venus semi-sextile has a way of subtly contrasting a logical and playful approach. We can say things we don’t mean/feel as we flit between consulting our brains and our hearts. However, we’re making an effort to understand one another. With tonight’s Sun-Saturn semi-sextile, we don’t find it straightforward to enjoy ourselves without a vague feeling that we may be neglecting a responsibility. Fortunately, we’re heading toward a Sun-Pluto quintile, and we might gain an advantage or edge through design, solving problems, and willingness to challenge ourselves. We’re ready to put effort and extra work into pursuing our desires.
APRIL 3
The meeting of Venus and Neptune in Pisces this morning is a gentle and perhaps subtle influence that heightens our sensitivity to — and awareness of — beauty and spirituality. We can feel renewed on creative levels. With this transit, we are easily influenced, seducible, and seductive. Our imaginations are immense, for better or for worse. Psychic openness and compassion are themes in our interactions now. It can be a magical time on a romantic or social level, although it could also be a confusing or illusory influence. Today’s Mars-Uranus quintile can help us find channels for expressing our need for change and progress in creative and unique ways. It’s easier than usual to solve problems or to find our way around them.
The Moon is void from 1:41 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Neptune), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 5:08 AM EDT.
APRIL 4
The Moon spends the day in forward-looking Aquarius, and we are attracted to the unusual, extraordinary, and unconventional. Independence, equality, and freedom are vital to feeling emotionally satisfied with this position of the Moon. We’re incredibly earnest, friendly, and principled. The Sun aligns with the True North Node in Aries, encouraging and perhaps challenging us to grow, improve, and aspire to our goals. We tend to turn to new projects or initiatives to do so.
Very late today, Venus enters Aries and will transit the sign until April 29th. With Venus in Aries, we are bold, fresh, and a little impatient with matters of the heart. We don’t look back–we’re not interested in apologizing or dwelling on the past. Our desires are strong, and we express them spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Our tastes are simple, but we can feel the need to fulfill them urgently in the weeks ahead.
APRIL 5
The Moon continues its transit of fair-minded Aquarius until 7:13 AM EDT when it heads into creative Pisces. The Pisces Moon encourages us to get in touch with our imaginative, compassionate side. We might avoid confrontations or challenging situations with a Pisces Moon. While it’s go-with-the-flow energy, we head towards a Mercury-Mars semi-square as the day advances, introducing some nervous tension or impatience to our communications and actions. We can quickly come up with ideas or retorts, but we can be a little jumpy and snappy under this influence. If we succumb to the pressure to get things done quickly, we may be working under stressful or hectic conditions. It’s not an ideal transit for patience or listening skills. However, frustration could fuel our motivation to make a change.
The Moon is void from 1:40 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mercury), until the Moon enters Pisces at 7:13 AM EDT.
APRIL 6
Today’s Venus-Pluto sextile gently breaks down barriers, helping us gain new insight into our needs for love, comfort, or pleasure and our money situation. Or, we take a comfortably strategic approach to these affairs. Our feelings are more focused and intensified in a generally pleasant and positive way. In fact, we seek depth of emotion and authenticity in our dealings. This can be a good time to do what we love, follow our passions, or pursue a pleasure more heartily than usual. If we seize the opportunity, we can advance our interests with finances and relationships. The Moon spends the day in Pisces, harmonizing with Jupiter and Uranus, and we may seek novel creative outlets to unwind and decompress. This Pisces Moon transit can heighten our awareness of our spiritual nature and needs.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Aries A new sense of self, a more assertive personal style, a more dynamic approach to life: these are the hallmarks of the cycle that begins for you now. Doubts fade into the background, and reserve is more and more a thing of the past. It’s time for action; your destiny is in your hands, rather than set apart. Full speed ahead (“and damn the torpedoes”) is your motto now, for better or for worse!
Mercury in Aries New ideas and an independent or pioneering mental orientation take on more importance in your life at this time. Teaching, learning, communicating, and social contact have a way of outlining new directions in your life now, and there is much activity and involvement with these kinds of issues.
Mars in Pisces There’s a martyr complex in the air, now that this new phase has begun in your life. How can you (or anyone) save the world? It’s a question you’ll probably ask yourself as this cycle continues. Defending the weak, undoing injustice, and tilting at windmills can be a big temptation. You might even win a few hands – but you’ll blister a couple if you’re not careful.
Jupiter in Taurus A kind of Midas touch is signaled by the new cycle now dawning in your life. Prosperity and security take center stage in your thoughts; a gentle but committed conservatism brings you all kinds of good things. Take care of the material things, and the spiritual will take care of itself: that’s your orientation now.
Saturn in Pisces Making peace with the past, coming to terms with karmic debts: these are some of the issues that confront you as a new phase begins in your life. Failure to face these things can cause setbacks and put obstacles in your path. Learn to look beyond the narrowly personal and selfish or you’ll get in over your head.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life. Tradition becomes irrelevant, and the conventional wisdom is revealed as dogma or outright nonsense – and what’s the difference, really? Radical changes in all things social and intellectual.
