Cancer in 2010
Particularly for those of you born early in the sign of Cancer, 2010 is a year of pivotal change. For all of you, the year ahead brings surprises and challenges in love.
The good news is that Jupiter, for much of the year, is in fellow water sign, Pisces, and in harmony with your sign. This adds a nice layer or padding to your spirit. It’s not that changes won’t get to you, but that you are taking things in stride for the most. You are able to see the big picture, and that certainly helps, especially if you consider that 2010 is a time of transition for all signs.
With the ruler of your partnership sector, practical Saturn, for the most part dignified in relationship-oriented Libra in 2010 as well as your secure and comfortable fourth house, your partnership needs tend to be conservative and traditional this year. You are most impressed by a partner who is home-oriented and traditional, but who also is willing to meet you halfway. People who remind you of your childhood or who fit into traditional or familiar roles and patterns in your life time are most intriguing to you, or are people who you attract into your life. A partner might also be displaying these traits now. Saturn does return to particular Virgo for a few months this year, but for the better part is dignified in Libra. For those hoping to meet a “significant other”, your best bet again this year is finding a special person close to home.
Many of you will be taking a casual romance to an entirely new level this year and in coming years with Pluto, the ruler of your romance sector, in your solar seventh house–the sector that rules one-to-one relationships most commonly associated with marriage partners but which can also include other close partnerships, even business partnerships! However, there is an unusual connection between the two love relationship sectors in your chart, the partnership sector (seventh house) and romance sector (fifth house). The seventh house rules more committed relationships or partnerships, and the fifth house rules casual love affairs. The ruler of your romance sector is in the partnership sector in 2010 and for many years to come, yet the rulers of both sectors are square to one another this year. This could point to a relationship that you’d like to take to another level of commitment, but there are challenges doing so. Or, a lack of spontaneity and romance in a partnership might be especially glaring this year, and an area that you want (or need) to improve. You could be meeting serious or older partners; or you could find that power plays and games of control are dominating your love life.
Now and in years to come, you are learning not to settle only to keep the peace. Disruptions are probable in existing partnerships, or you could be meeting people who want to control you. Some of you are facing big challenges in existing partnerships, probably revolving around issues of control. You are learning about what partnering really means to you, and superficial or artificial interactions are no longer satisfying you, let alone carrying you. You are likely to be dealing with obsessive behavior, either within yourself or coming from a partner. Fear of loss or betrayal is something you will be facing now and in years to come. Depth of experience will be sought, and many of you will deepen your commitment to a significant other. Over the next few years, this influence will have the effect of ridding your life of superficiality in your close relationships. Lessons learned may not always be easy, but empowering in the end. This is especially true for those born June 21-June 27.
For all Cancers, your biggest enemy now is resentment, which can act to eat away your confidence and healthy state of mind. Major changes in the structure of your close personal relationships, and in your attitude towards them, are in store. Some of you might already feel these matters rumbling or brewing under the surface.
Those of you born very early in the sign of Cancer (or who have a Cancer Ascendant in the first few degrees) are in for the most dramatic changes and adjustments this year. Birthdays are June 21-24.
However, all Cancers are affected on some level. Eclipses occur again this year in your sign. This series of eclipses occurring in your sign and your opposing sign, Capricorn, which rules your partnership sector, began in July of 2009. Eye-opening experiences occurred then and will occur again in 2010. Some of you might experience these as relationship “tests” or hurdles to overcome. Negotiations and compromises are needed. The lunar eclipse on December 31, 2009, affects you for the first few months of 2010. Having occurred in your sign, your emotions are on your sleeve and you could be feeling especially vulnerable. Your independence or ability as a leader could be tested now. The solar eclipse on January 15th occurs in your partnership sector and provides you with an opportunity to start fresh in the relationship department. The need to make changes in existing partnerships is glaring now, and the cosmos are assisting you for the most part now. The June and July eclipses are more problematic or disruptive. Both of them are highly personal for you and bring changes to your self-image and your attitudes towards relationships.
All of these influences seem to point to a total reworking of your attitude towards relationships, and a push to improve or do away with unhealthy connections.
Although Saturn, the ruler of your partner or your primary relationship, is dignified in the sign of Libra for the most part this year, it is also very challenged in 2010 by a host of planets. This could point to troubles, challenges, or worries for an existing partner, or challenges really connecting to a partnership, or troubles finding a solid partnership for singles. The latter part of 2010 seems better for Saturn, and so does 2011. This could signal an easier time for a partner or partnership.
Jupiter leaves your intimacy sector in 2010, and you have likely learned to truly take pleasure in your intimate life as a result, and these lessons stay with you.
The retrograde of Venus from March 6-April 17 is likely to affect everyone’s personal life in some way, but not so much for you, as Venus is not connected to romantic hotspots in your solar chart, and its position by sign at the time of the retrograde is also not love-oriented.
Uranus continues to open up your eyes to new experiences, exposing you to new belief systems. Some of you (mostly those born July 15-22) are enjoying a period of unique self-expression, insightfulness, and sense of freedom. In September, sudden fortunate opportunities that further expand your mind and connect you to something greater and bigger are likely to arise in your life.
Neptune continues to add color (and sometimes confusion) to your intimate relationships. You are likely to struggle with drawing personal boundaries with a partner, particularly those of you born July 17-22.
Retrogrades this year that affect your romantic life are Venus’ retrograde in October and November, and Mercury’s retrograde active at the beginning of the year and until January 15th, as well as later on, from December 10-30. Both of the Mercury retrograde periods occur in your partnership sector, so a partner or primary relationship could be confusing at those times.
Venus is retrograde this year from October 8-November 18, which affects all of us in general, mainly in the areas of love and finances. These matters are not straightforward during this period, and it is a time for reviewing our attitudes rather than forging ahead boldly into new love relationships or financial projects. Because this Venus retrograde cycle occurs for the most part in your romance sector, watch for evasiveness or stalling in your love life at that time. Remember that if anyone is distant, it’s because they need a bit of time and space to figure things out.
Keep in mind that very little in 2010 is permanent–overall, it’s a year of sudden changes, but it looks to be more of a transitional year. While many will be tempted to take risks, and certainly much can be learned from doing so, the rewards will not always be of the permanent kind. It’s not that people shouldn’t take risks this year, but if they do, they should keep in mind that rewards may be temporary, or they might change their minds at a later date.
Eros, the god of erotic love, is in your sign from April 27-May 29, and harmonizes with your sign from your romance sector from September 15-October 28. Your powers of attraction run very high during these cycles, but more in terms of you going after what you want than waiting for things to come to you. Sexual activity may be more frequent than usual. An impassioned attitude in general is with you.
Key Periods in 2010:
From January 1-18, a partnership is especially warm, loving, and pleasurable. It’s a strong time for attracting or enhancing a serious relationship, but do keep in mind that decisions made during this period are not very stable, so hold off on major changes if you can.
The Solar Eclipse on January 15th brings super-charged energy to a partnership, and its effects last for months to come.
From January 19-February 5, you attract others like bee to honey with a mysterious, sensual aura that surrounds you. This is a period of the year that is most conducive to erotic pleasure and magnetism. However, because Mars is retrograde in your sign, you may not be making any solid decisions during this period.
April 27-May 29 is a period in which your powers of attraction run very high, but more in terms of you going after what you want than waiting for things to come to you. Sexual activity may be more frequent than usual. An impassioned attitude in general is with you.
Venus is in your sign from May 20-June 14. This is a time when the world seems to be speaking, or at least appreciating, your “love language”. It’s a period ripe with opportunity for attracting others, for turning on the charm, and for receiving positive feedback from partners or love interests. Love seems to come to you without the need for your pursuing it.
Overlapping dates of May 20-29 point to a better period for love in 2010, and especially on May 20th, when Venus in Caner harmonizes with healing Chiron.
October 8-November 18 is the Venus retrograde period. Don’t make any major decisions about love (and finances) during this cycle.
Romance picks up pace with Mars moving through your romance sector, from September 14-October 28, but is probably better from September 14-October 8 when Venus is not retrograde. Venus is in Scorpio at this time as well, making this an especially stimulating time for romance. Venus will stay in your romance sector for an unusually long time this year because of its retrograde, so you will get plenty of time to attract what it is you want from a lover.
