The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Friday, November 10th, 2017, at 3:36 PM EST.
On Friday afternoon, the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Scorpio forms a square with the Moon in Leo. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us — and what doesn’t — in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again.
This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?
This phase of the Moon occurs at 18 degrees and 38 minutes of Leo square the Sun at 18 degrees and 38 minutes of Scorpio, affecting people born with personal planets and points at 17 to 21 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.
The FULL MOON occurred on Saturday, November 4th, 2017, at 1:23 AM EDT.
On Saturday morning, the Full Moon occurred as the Sun in Scorpio formed an opposition to the Moon in Taurus. This one was particularly close to the earth such that we may feel its themes a little more strongly.
Full Moons always pit opposite signs of the zodiac against each other but also invite us to work to achieve a balance between the opposing energies.
The contrast between earthy, practical, peace-loving Taurus and emotional, transformative, crisis-oriented Scorpio comes full bloom now. The Moon in Taurus wants us to find emotional fulfillment through the simple, tangible things in life, while the Scorpio Sun draws our attention to complexities, intangibles, and mysteries. The Full Moon illuminates this conflict between form (Taurus) and transformation (Scorpio), and between collecting (Taurus) and sharing (Scorpio). This is a passionate and creative Full Moon, ripe with possibilities and learning experiences. Intimate relationship matters, such as personal comfort levels and values as well as sexuality, figure prominently now. The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time—a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.
The Taurus Full Moon reminds us of the abundance of what we already have. A Venus-Uranus opposition is extremely tight at the time of the Full Moon, and since Venus is Taurus’ ruler, this aspect takes on even more significance. Recall that Uranus tightly opposed the New Moon on the 19th, and this has a similar feel to it — we need to awaken to a new way of doing things and enjoying ourselves. The Full Moon itself connects with Jupiter and harmonizes with Neptune, as both bodies get closer and closer to an exact trine, emphasizing the fertility, imagination, and magic of our realizations and epiphanies. Generosity and compassion increase and our faith is boosted. We more easily make personal sacrifices for what we believe to be the better good.
This phase of the Moon occurred at 11 degrees and 59 minutes of Taurus forming an opposition with the Sun at 11 degrees and 59 minutes of Scorpio, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 8 to 16 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

The Sun is in Scorpio; Mercury is in Scorpio until the 5th, when it enters Sagittarius; Venus is in Libra until the 7th, after which Venus is in Scorpio; Mars is in Libra.
The Sun is in Scorpio from October 23-November 21. The guiding principle of Scorpio is “I desire”. Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, and extremes of feeling. Superficiality simply will not do with the Sun in Scorpio. We have the desire to get to the bottom of matters. Mediocrity does not satisfy either. All that is hidden, taboo, secret, or suppressed interests us. In Libra, we strived towards equality and fairness. Scorpio, however, instinctively believes that life simply isn’t fair. Scorpio’s energy is provocative, usually in a quiet way, as well as passionate, strong-willed, and intense. It can be an immensely healing and transformative energy. Jealousy, vindictiveness, beating a dead horse, and manipulative are some of the more negative expressions of Scorpio.
Mercury is in Scorpio from October 17-November 5. When Mercury is in Scorpio, our thoughts and communications are more probing and intense. While Mercury in Libra urged us to find balance and to arrive at fair solutions, Mercury in Scorpio instinctively knows that life simply isn’t fair. Mercury in Scorpio seeks truths in all that is hidden and undercover. We tend to probe, observe, and focus our thoughts under this influence. Looking for motivations–the more deeply buried the better–satisfies an intellectual need now. Our thoughts are profound. We throw away superficial manners of communicating in favor of deep conversations. Scorpio is extremely sharp, profound, and analytical. Thinking is inclined to be one-track minded, focused, and even obsessive.
Mercury is in Sagittarius from November 5-January 11. When Mercury is in Sagittarius, our thinking shifts from a need to plumb the depths of any given situation to the desire to learn about a wide range of topics. Ideals are sought, our thinking is more optimistic, and our faith increases. We are more equipped to believe and to persuade. What is fair and unfair concerns us most now. However, we are not always very precise under this influence.
Venus is in Libra from October 14-November 7. We are more inclined to employ charm rather than aggressive behavior in order to get what we want during this cycle. Although Venus in Libra virtually lives for relationships, there is an air of cool detachment to this energy. We are very obliging with others–quite willing to negotiate and compromise. We can be especially idealistic about love. We prefer things to be done the “right” way, and we’re turned off by aggressive or uncouth behavior. The shadow side of this position is dependence, inconsistency, and superficiality. In an attempt to avoid unpleasant situations, we could easily gloss over deeper issues at play in our relationships. It’s probably best to avoid the trap of acquiescing to our partners but privately resenting the fact or thinking ourselves martyrs for doing so! This is also a time when we are more artistically inclined. We tend to seek balance in our personal environment.
Venus is in Scorpio from November 7-December 1. Deeply passionate relations are the focus with Venus in Scorpio. Superficial flirtations and contacts do not satisfy now, as we yearn for “body and soul” contact with someone special–contact that breaks the taboos, that is extreme and intense, and that is unforgettable. This is a highly emotional position for Venus. It is a passionate, sensual, and intense energy. Our relationships are immensely important to us, and we may even feel that they consume us. In fact, we tend to want to be consumed by them! Our drive is toward intense closeness, but blind faith in our partners is extremely hard for us now. Fears of being too vulnerable or of giving up our own power to others are strong. Scorpio is an “all or nothing” energy, and relationships tend to be somewhat of a rollercoaster ride as a result. Disdain for mediocrity and superficiality can compel us to create crises in order to feel alive and vital.
Mars is in Libra from October 22-December 9. We tend to use our charm as a means to an end under the influence of this cycle. Because we can see many different sides to an issue, we can be vacillating and indecisive about how to act. We don’t want to be the “bad guy”, and rarely resort to force. Instead, we attempt to win arguments with style. We are indirect in approach and inclined towards engaging in mental debates, yet we also attempt to make the opposition comfortable! Passive-aggressiveness is the shadow side of this energy.
Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015, to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn’s transit through Sagittarius here.
Jupiter entered Scorpio on October 10th and will remain in the sign until November 8th, 2018. Read about Jupiter in Scorpio transit here.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011 and will transit Aries until May 15, 2018, and then from November 6, 2018, to March 6, 2019. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Libra from October 14-November 7. We are more inclined to employ charm rather than aggressive behavior in order to get what we want during this cycle. Although Venus in Libra virtually lives for relationships, there is an air of cool detachment to this energy. We are very obliging with others–quite willing to negotiate and compromise. We can be especially idealistic about love. We prefer things be done the “right” way, and are turned off by aggressive or uncouth behavior.
If a relationship becomes too settled or predictable, we may crave more intensity and catalytic experience. Jealousies, fears of betrayal, and power games are the shadow side of Venus in Scorpio. We may easily become obsessed with a fear that our partners might be betraying us, or that they are not as consumed and dedicated to the relationship as us. This can lead us to try to uncover the “truth”, reading too many negative possibilities in our partners’ actions and words.
This week: Venus doesn’t form any major aspects with the major planets this week.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Libra October 14-November 7. As this new cycle takes hold in your life, romance and social interaction take on a greater importance for you. Harmonious ties to others are what you yearn for; refinement and elegance are what you seek. The ideal partnership, the perfect balance, the highest standards of truth and beauty – these are some of the things that quicken your pulse now.
Venus in Scorpio This is way beyond love, all the way to obsession – that’s the nature of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. We’re not talking just lukewarm WANT here; we’re talking red-hot GOT TO HAVE! Passion, jealousy, possession: these are the kinds of experiences that can flow from the intensity that courses through you at one level or another now – voracious.
Venus quincunx Chiron November 2-3. There may be vague feelings of discontent in relationships; or a choice that needs to be made regarding personal relationships, money, or possessions. Insecurity involving others might make it awkward for us to express our affections naturally or flowingly.
Venus sextile Saturn November 2-3. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor.
Venus opposition Uranus November 3-4. This is not an ideal time to begin relationships. Independence is the reigning need. Some fickleness. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune November 4. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus contra-parallel Uranus November 4-5. Questions of freedom, change, specialness, and experimentation are raised in our relationships.
Venus conjunction Jupiter November 12-13. We have large appetites for love and pleasure, and generosity of spirit as well. An excellent time (all things considered) to begin a new relationship, or renew an old/existing one.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, November 5th, from 4:29 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Mercury), until the Moon enters Gemini at 5:27 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, November 7th, from 5:40 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Venus), until the Moon enters Cancer at 5:45 AM EST (an extremely brief VOC period).
VOC Moon on Thursday, November 9th, from 12:15 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Leo at 7:30 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Saturday, November 11th, from 3:56 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Uranus), until the Moon enters Virgo at 11:42 AM EST.
November 2017:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury semi-square Pluto. “Suspicious minds” characterize this transit, although if we harness the energy, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. Mistrust, investigations. Some level of mental stress, trouble, or pressure.
Sun sextile Pluto. Research brings rewards. We benefit now from strategy and keeping things to ourselves for the time being. Opportunities to find or renew something we had lost, and to gain some power are available now.
Mars quincunx Neptune. We can feel vaguely discontented and without direction under this influence. The tendency to be careless is also strong now. Poor judgment or laziness can prevent us from realizing our plans.
Saturn trine Uranus. This is a time when we’re more likely to be doing what we enjoy, and enjoying what we’re doing, particularly related to career, work, and life path matters, but extending to other areas of life as well. This can be a time of firsts in the primary structures of our lives. Changes we make tend to be deliberate or calculated, but possibly also quite quick. Original ideas may take form, or they might be developed quite successfully now. There is an opportunity to combine stability and improvement or excitement with good results. The same can be said of innovation and tradition.

NOVEMBER 5
The Moon continues its transit of Taurus today until 5:27 AM EST, after which it visits chatty, connected, and flexible Gemini. Mercury enters Sagittarius today and will stay in the sign much longer than its usual three weeks, until January 11th. Today, we’re inclined to assert our independence or question our dependence. While the Gemini Moon often prefers light entertainment and conversation, we seek to probe deeply into topics and understand things rather than scratch the surface today as Mercury and Pluto align in declination.
The Moon is void from 4:29 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Mercury), until the Moon enters Gemini at 5:27 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 6
The Moon spends the day in curious Gemini, stimulating our desire to connect, share, and interact. We’re not particularly focused with a Gemini Moon, and, in fact, we can be very easily distracted now, but it’s an excellent time to explore our options, gather information, and test the waters. A Mercury-Saturn parallel aspect can help us concentrate, however, and our conversations tend to have a serious overtone. As the day advances, we head towards a semi-square between Mercury and Pluto. This can produce some tension or mental distress and worry. We’re somewhat skeptical or mistrustful under this influence, although if we harness the energy and use it for good, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. We might also face some rejection or criticism around the Moon-Saturn opposition this evening.
NOVEMBER 7
Early today, mental pressures or troubles can be unsettling as Mercury and Pluto form a semi-square. We should watch for obsessing over an issue that we can’t or shouldn’t control. The Moon continues its transit of Gemini until 5:40 AM EST, after which the Moon moves through the sign of comfort-seeking Cancer. Venus enters Scorpio today, where it will transit until December 1st. Deeply passionate relations are the focus with Venus in Scorpio. Superficial flirtations and contacts do not satisfy now, as we yearn for “body and soul” contact with someone special that breaks the norms, is intense, and is unforgettable. This is a highly emotional and passionate position for Venus. We look for projects, pleasures, and relationships that consume us. Fears of being too vulnerable or of giving up our own power to others are strong. We’re good at handling money and resources now. There can be disdain for routine today, or circumstances are such that our lives are too chaotic or scattered to be able to focus on our goals. We should watch for sudden abandonment of goals, projects, responsibilities, or commitments now. The Moon’s trine to Jupiter this afternoon is encouraging and generous, while the Moon-Mars square tonight can stimulate tension and impulsive reactions.
A void of course Moon occurs from 5:40 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Venus), until the Moon enters Cancer at 5:45 AM EST (an extremely brief VOC period).
NOVEMBER 8
The Moon is in Cancer all day, and we crave secure, familiar settings. Feelings of belonging and safety are what motivate us under this influence. We tend to respond to challenges or stress by retreating or withdrawing under the influence of a protective Cancer Moon, and we are especially concerned with family and close loved ones. We can benefit from the clarity of the Sun-Moon trine this morning and act more holistically and purposefully. Decision-making is improved, although it could be a tad emotion-biased. Our feelings run deep, and we are unafraid to face them, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us and others. This is a good day for strengthening and supporting others and building trust, although there can be some tension surrounding the Moon’s opposition to Pluto late morning. We’re pleasantly ambitious and motivated as the day advances with the Sun approaching a sextile to Pluto.
NOVEMBER 9
The Moon continues its transit of Cancer until 7:30 AM EST, after which it transits Leo. This morning, the Sun perfects its sextile to Pluto. We may be discovering new ways of looking at problems or life in general. We feel stronger and enjoy the empowered feeling that making changes and improvements brings. Opportunities to find or renew something we had lost, and to gain a stronger sense of personal power, can emerge now. This can be an exceptionally resourceful time when we feel perfectly capable of overcoming obstacles and meeting challenges. There can be an opportunity to rebuild or reform a project and to work on self-improvement. This evening, however, Mars forms a quincunx to Neptune, and we can feel a little stuck – uncertain what we truly want and where to head – until we get in touch with the spiritual or emotional needs we may have been overlooking.
A void of course Moon occurs from 12:15 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Leo at 7:30 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 10
The Moon spends the day in Leo. We are creative, loving, and ready to perform under this influence. This afternoon, the Last Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Scorpio forms a square with the Leo Moon. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to a crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we can now sort out what works for us — and what doesn’t — in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again. This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. We’re heading towards the final Saturn-Uranus trine in a set of three that first began in December, exact tomorrow morning, and we’re in an excellent position to give form to our unusual ideas or make an unconventional set-up work for us.
NOVEMBER 11
A long-term aspect is exact today and is the final in a set of three (this aspect perfected in December 2016 and May 2017): Saturn in Sagittarius forms a trine to Uranus in Aries. We have the opportunity to make changes and progress without sacrificing security and reliability under this influence. We can successfully apply new methods to old projects, or take an original, innovative idea and turn it into a workable plan. There can be breakthroughs, new beginnings and structures in our lives, and success in business, science, and math. There is the ability to combine the progressive with the traditional, and there can be a better understanding between the young and the old. We can be committed yet retain our independence. We might enjoy more freedoms or creative license in the work we do. Educational advances are possible now, and we may be updating our skills and knowledge. It’s an excellent time for updating a business, pursuit, or program. The Moon continues its transit of Leo until 11:42 AM EST, after which the Moon transits Virgo.
A void of course Moon occurs from 3:56 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Uranus), until the Moon enters Virgo at 11:42 AM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
When the Moon is in Cancer
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
When the Moon is in Leo
The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.
The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.
When the Moon is in Virgo
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Scorpio Who owes what, who owns what, and who decides these things: these are some of the major issues for you at the dawn of the cycle that now begins in your life. The only thing we really own is our consciousness; the only master who is never overthrown is oneself. These are lessons best learned early in this cycle. Master them, and you master everything. Dodge these issues and the great strength that could be yours will remain just out of reach. Understanding inner motivations, seeing through to the core: that’s your real path of power and enlightenment now.
Mercury in Scorpio A pronounced curiosity about taboos and mysteries plays a greater part in your life now. Your mind is on cutting through the nonessentials and penetrating to the core is where your mind is at now; you want to know who (or what) pulls the strings. Sex, taxes, investments, and others of life’s most compelling phenomena may captivate your interest more than ever before.
Mercury in Sagittarius A time of expanding your mental horizons is at hand. Religion, philosophy, law, and education are some of the things that may have special importance for you now. Being in touch with faraway people and places satisfies an intellectual yearning – curiosity will take you anywhere and maybe everywhere.
Venus in Libra As this new cycle takes hold in your life, romance and social interaction take on a greater importance for you.
Mars in Libra “I’m giving you a definite maybe” – that’s the motto of the cycle you’re now entering. It’s a time of refinement and tact, of an urge to please others that is so strong as to make it hard to decide or act for fear of offending someone. You’ll quickly learn to balance this out, or you’ll discover that there is no peace in compromise – and this can be tough on close relationships. The trick is to find the win-win solution to the no-win situation – and if anyone’s ever up to it, you are now.
Jupiter in Scorpio The phase now beginning for you emphasizes fixing what is broken or unhealthy, thereby giving it a new lease on life. This is more than one person alone can handle, so the cooperation of others is essential. You give up something in order to get or create something, and you may not understand the reasons why at the time. Sex, money, power, and vitality become key issues.
Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.” Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
