The NEW MOON occurs on Saturday, November 18th, 2017, at 6:42 AM EST. 

On Saturday morning, the New Moon is exact in the sign of Scorpio. This cycle is good for committing to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Scorpion.

This lunation stimulates a new beginning in the fixed water sign of Scorpio. It’s a time when we can focus on some of the constructive traits of the sign of the Scorpion–passionate, resourceful, focused, probing, deep, and perceptive–and consider how to positively incorporate these qualities into our lives. Scorpio New Moons are generally good for working on our self-mastery skills. We may want to pinpoint the things in our lives that make us feel out of control, such as addictions and debts, and work on freeing ourselves of these emotional burdens.

This New Moon cycle is also an opportune one in which to explore what is missing in our lives that leads us to engage in these self-destructive behaviors. This cycle represents an opportunity to rid ourselves of the “junk” in our lives–material and spiritual. With this potent Scorpio energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives. One of Scorpio’s “lessons” involve learning to dig deeper into the mysteries around us instead of always being content with status quo. Taking the time to understand others’ motives can enrich our feelings of intimacy, forgiveness, and sense of meaning. Scorpio also teaches us that dedication to one meaningful relationship or undertaking can be significantly more satisfying than spreading ourselves around. Here, “quality over quantity” applies. We might want to use this cycle to work on focusing on and developing one special project or relationship in order to help add purposefulness and depth to our lives.

The Sun is in Scorpio from October 23-November 21. The guiding principle of Scorpio is “I desire”. Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, and extremes of feeling. Superficiality simply will not do with the Sun in Scorpio. We have the desire to get to the bottom of matters. Mediocrity does not satisfy either. All that is hidden, taboo, secret, or suppressed interests us. In Libra, we strived towards equality and fairness. Scorpio, however, instinctively believes that life simply isn’t fair. Scorpio’s energy is provocative, usually in a quiet way, as well as passionate, strong-willed, and intense. It can be an immensely healing and transformative energy. Jealousy, vindictiveness, beating a dead horse, and manipulative are some of the more negative expressions of Scorpio.

Mercury is in Sagittarius from November 5-January 11. When Mercury is in Sagittarius, our thinking shifts from a need to plumb the depths of any given situation to the desire to learn about a wide range of topics. Ideals are sought, our thinking is more optimistic, and our faith increases. We are more equipped to believe and to persuade. What is fair and unfair concerns us most now. However, we are not always very precise under this influence.

Venus is in Scorpio from November 7-December 1. Deeply passionate relations are the focus with Venus in Scorpio. Superficial flirtations and contacts do not satisfy now, as we yearn for “body and soul” contact with someone special–contact that breaks the taboos, that is extreme and intense, and that is unforgettable. This is a highly emotional position for Venus. It is a passionate, sensual, and intense energy. Our relationships are immensely important to us, and we may even feel that they consume us. In fact, we tend to want to be consumed by them! Our drive is toward intense closeness, but blind faith in our partners is extremely hard for us now. Fears of being too vulnerable or of giving up our own power to others are strong. Scorpio is an “all or nothing” energy, and relationships tend to be somewhat of a rollercoaster ride as a result. Disdain for mediocrity and superficiality can compel us to create crises in order to feel alive and vital.

Mars is in Libra from October 22-December 9. We tend to use our charm as a means to an end under the influence of this cycle. Because we can see many different sides to an issue, we can be vacillating and indecisive about how to act. We don’t want to be the “bad guy”, and rarely resort to force. Instead, we attempt to win arguments with style. We are indirect in approach and inclined towards engaging in mental debates, yet we also attempt to make the opposition comfortable! Passive-aggressiveness is the shadow side of this energy.

We may easily become obsessed with a fear that our partners might be betraying us, or that they are not as consumed and dedicated to the relationship as us. This can lead us to try to uncover the “truth”, reading too many negative possibilities in our partners’ actions and words.

This week: On Sunday and Monday, we benefit from a Venus-Jupiter conjunction and Venus-Jupiter parallel, stimulating our good-hearted, generous, and affectionate side, as well as hopefulness and cooperation. Our appetites for love and affection are large. Miscommunications are likely on these dates, so it’s a good idea to watch for overstating our feelings.

Venus in Scorpio This is way beyond love, all the way to obsession – that’s the nature of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. We’re not talking just lukewarm WANT here; we’re talking red-hot GOT TO HAVE! Venus trine Neptune November 15-16. We perceive romantic situations as if they were “designed” just for us. A magical, romantic time. The pleasures of life are experienced fully. Romance is highly favored. We see the very best in people now, and this eases our interactions and takes the pressure off in personal relationships.

Mercury sesquiquadrate Uranus. We can have flashes of insight, but tend to be scatterbrained. Our ideas and communications may not be well-received because they don’t seem to others to carry weight. Our minds are not peaceful or harmonious under this influence, and irritable tempers, sarcastic speech, and dogmatism are negative expressions of this energy. However, fresh and creative ideas may come to us now.

Venus conjunct Jupiter. A potentially magical transit when we are especially generous and giving, optimistic, and kind towards others. We might also be quite indulgent under this influence. Mercury square Neptune. We find it hard to follow facts, directions, and instructions. Difficulties concentrating on hard, cold facts are likely; and we may question facts altogether or avoid being pinned down for answers. This is a bad time for signing on the dotted line. Perceptions are confused, unrealistic, or too idealistic to carry weight in the real world. Conversations may be vague.

Venus sesquiquadrate Chiron. Blocks to intimacy are possible now as we focus on differences rather than similarities in our relationships with others. We might have a hard time learning from one another as a result.

  Venus semi-square Saturn. There may be difficulties relating to others under this influence. People may be cool with their affections and emotionally distant. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be “money pits” as time passes. There may be anxiety or troubles with regards to matters concerned with the feelings. Romantic disappointments, unrequited love, separations, and broken engagements are the more negative manifestations. We tend to lack social confidence at this time and adopt a shy, formal, or reserved social manner. This transit is best used for reflection.

Venus trine Neptune. We are more attuned to the world of beauty, the arts, and the imagination. Compassion, harmony, kindness, and openness characterize this transit. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. This can be a “magical” time on a romantic and social level. The pleasures of life are experienced fully. We see the very best in people now, and this eases our interactions and takes the pressure off in personal relationships. Romance is highly favored.

Sun trine Chiron. A sense of purpose or a “mission” is with us now, increasing our confidence. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong. Problem solving is favored.

Sun quincunx Uranus. Surprise elements make us feel out of control of our lives or the direction we would like to take. Disrupted plans or schedules. Unexpected events or change of plans.

Mercury sextile Mars. Mental alertness, enthusiasm, and energetic communications figure now. Quick decisions can be made. We are productive and take “busy-ness” in stride. We are alert and aware, and can easily turn ideas into workable projects.

This morning, the Moon forms a square to Mercury and opposition to Neptune, and while the Virgo Moon craves order, it can be challenging to find clear answers under these influences. This evening, a Moon-Pluto trine is far more deliberate and decisive. However, a Mercury-Uranus aspect comes into force, and we may have a hard time following a schedule. This is a scatterbrain aspect – we might have original ideas but difficulty conveying them or making them work just for now. We’re also moving towards a Venus-Jupiter alignment in the sign of Scorpio, exact early tomorrow. This aspect promotes cooperation, optimism, forgiveness, and generosity, although it can also elevate expectations. We may be indulgent now and tempted to overspend or overstate our feelings. We are sociable, fun-loving, and desirous of sharing our happiness with others. We have large appetites for love and pleasure. This can be an excellent influence for beginning a new relationship or financial undertaking, or for kind gestures and efforts to renew or refresh existing ties and form new ones.

NOVEMBER 13

The Venus-Jupiter conjunction early morning is a generous and charitable aspect that can have the effect of opening our hearts (and possibly wallets). Venus and Jupiter form a parallel as well, effectively strengthening and extending this influence through the day. We have large appetites for love and pleasure, and generosity of spirit as well. We have a stronger desire than usual to find meaning in our relationships. As well today, Mercury forms a square to Neptune, and we can find it difficult to follow or communicate facts, directions, and instructions. Perceptions may be confused or too idealistic, influenced strongly by wishful thinking and imagination. The Moon spends much of the day in exacting Virgo until 6:28 PM EST, when the Moon enters relationship-oriented Libra.

NOVEMBER 14

The Moon spends the day in polite, accommodating Libra, and we seek out harmony and balance. While this is a good influence for cooperation, a minor challenging aspect between Libran ruler, Venus, and Chiron suggests some discomfort or distance socially. Blocks to intimacy are possible now as we focus on differences rather than similarities in our relationships with others. We might have a hard time learning from one another as a result. A Moon-Mars alignment tonight stirs up excitement, although it can also pull up anger for quick handling.

NOVEMBER 15

The Moon spends another full day in Libra, encouraging us to find ways to harmonize, cooperate, and connect well with others. A Mars-Ceres sextile this morning provides a subtle boost of confidence. We feel supported and encouraged to assert ourselves or pursue our desires. It’s a good time to take steps towards making ourselves feel more secure and safe, and for family or domestic activities. We more readily support or defend others, although the Moon’s opposition to Uranus this evening can stir us up if we feel confined or hemmed in by our relationships.

NOVEMBER 16

Two heartening and supportive trines occur this morning — between Venus and Neptune and the Sun and Chiron. These tune us into our imagination, sense of wonder, compassion, and sense of romance or harmony. Gentleness with others is most appropriate now. We see the very best in people, and this eases our interactions and takes the pressure off in personal relationships. Still, with a Venus-Saturn semi-square also active this morning, we can be sensitive in social situations – anxiety might slightly inhibit our expression of delight or love. We may be holding parts of ourselves back. The Moon enters Scorpio early today, at 3:20 AM EST, and aligns with Jupiter this evening. Emotions are felt intensely, and intensity is relished! It’s a great time of the lunar month to do research, investigate, and probe. Learning what makes people tick turns us on just now.

Mercury favorably aspects Mars today, and we can be especially alert and observant, as well as extremely resourceful. Communications are energetic and enthusiasm for topics or projects runs high. Even so, this is a better time for going over the past than for making solid plans for the future. For one, a quincunx between the Sun and Uranus is somewhat hesitant. Surprise elements make us feel out of control of our lives or the direction we would like to take. Disrupted plans or schedules may be part of the picture now, and they throw us off center a little more than usual. The Moon spends the full day in Scorpio and is Balsamic, as a New Moon will occur tomorrow afternoon in the sign. This is a time for winding down, pruning, letting go, reducing, and reflecting rather than beginning anew. We are symbolically in the dark now.

NOVEMBER 18

A New Moon occurs this morning in the sign of Scorpio. In the month ahead, we’re in great shape for new beginnings along Scorpio-themed lines. It’s a time when we can focus on some of the constructive traits of the sign of the Scorpion–passionate, resourceful, focused, probing, deep, and perceptive–and consider how to incorporate these qualities into our lives in meaningful and positive ways. Scorpio New Moons are suitable for working on our self-mastery skills. We may want to pinpoint the things in our lives that make us feel out of control, such as addictions and debts, and work on freeing ourselves of these emotional burdens. We may have an opportunity to rid ourselves of excess “junk” in our lives, material or spiritual. We may be moved to dig deeper into the mysteries around us rather than remain content with status quo. Taking the time to understand others’ motives can enrich our feelings of intimacy, forgiveness, and sense of meaning. A Mars-Pluto square is exact tomorrow morning but also influencing today, and it has a way of pulling up suppressed matter or emotional “slush.”

We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.

When the Moon is in Libra

We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.

The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.

 Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time.
