A New Moon occurs on Saturday, March 17th, 2018, at 9:11 AM EDT.
Early Saturday, a new cycle begins. The Aquarius New Moon cycle ends and the Pisces New Moon cycle begins. The New Moon in Pisces is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Fish. These include taking a leap of faith, accepting imperfections in ourselves and in others as a different kind of “perfection”, starting a project that requires imagination and visualization skills, consciously putting time aside for peaceful and rejuvenating activities, and sharing a dream with another. With this potent Pisces energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives.
This New Moon is especially creative and ambitious with its trine to Jupiter and (wide) sextile to Pluto. While we are likely to feel very inspired, and this New Moon can motivate us to take a leap of faith, we should watch for impatience and impulsive moves, since the lunation is also square to Mars, which is on the verge of changing signs and is thus especially vulnerable/volatile. Words can sting now, although they can also prompt a “turning over a new leaf” moment and fuel a new beginning. The Sun/Moon also form a semi-sextile to Uranus, and we can struggle a little with the idea of going our own way and being independent. While we want these things, it can be difficult to integrate these urges into our personalities or to act upon them consistently.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 26 degrees and 53 minutes of Pisces, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 22 to 30 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) and 0 to 1 degree of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
The Sun is in Pisces; Mercury is in Aries; Venus is in Aries; Mars is in Sagittarius until the 17th, when Mars enters Capricorn.
The Sun is in Pisces from February 18-March 20th. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side rules self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
Mercury is in Aries from March 6-May 13. When Mercury is in Aries, we are less concerned with objective viewpoints and explanations, and more concerned with reaching a decision…quickly! Our thoughts and ideas are pioneering, and we tend to speak more spontaneously and directly with the planet of communication in bold and assertive Aries.
Venus is in Aries from March 6-31. In Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don’t look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. It’s a brand new day! It’s time to make things work right now. Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt–there’s no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to Aries. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.
Mars is in Sagittarius from January 26-March 17. With a Sagittarius Mars, our actions are motivated by our ideals. We are bothered by routine, quickly becoming restless if we feel confined. We have a love of adventure, and of conquest–this is the position of wanderlust. We start projects or challenges with gusto, although we may tend to abandon them rather quickly. This may be because we set our sights too high!
Mars is in Capricorn from March 17-May 16. Mars in Capricorn is deliberate, persistent energy. We consider the future and the consequences before taking action during this cycle. Our energy is reliable and faithful. We are slow to anger, but can be quite cold if we are frustrated. The shadow side of Mars in Capricorn is rigidity.
Saturn transits Capricorn from December 19/20, 2017, to March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Jupiter entered Scorpio on October 10th, 2017, and will remain in the sign until November 8th, 2018. Read about Jupiter in Scorpio transit here.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011, and will transit Aries until May 15, 2018, and then from November 6, 2018, to March 6, 2019. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
This week: Late Monday to early Tuesday, feelings are complicated. Obstacles to our plans are possible now. Insecurities can emerge now, and our expectations may be unrealistic, whether they’re too high or too low.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Pisces A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you’re now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships … very aesthetic, very other-worldly.
Venus square Saturn March 12-13. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship–new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus sesquiquadrate Jupiter March 12-13. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.
Venus parallel Chiron March 12-13. Healing energy is brought to love relationships, and a new cycle begins. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings, and more willing to act upon them. This is a good time to make a resolution to repair, heal, and improve relationships.
Venus trine North Node of the Moon March 17-18. We are more concerned about harmonizing and tend to be agreeable and cooperative. We could feel lucky in love, and we could meet someone who is good for us. Fortunate connections might be made now.
Venus conjunct Mercury March 18-19. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners.
Venus square Pluto March 23. Intense passions, but there’s a hidden agenda. Jealousy and possessiveness are high, in direct proportion to fear of losing partnership. Avoid starting a new relationship at this time, because it can be characterized by these energies.
Venus quincunx/inconjunct Jupiter March 24-25. A strong desire for the pleasures of life is with us now, although our eyes are often bigger than our stomachs. Troubles in relationships now are likely due to overblown expectations. It can be challenging to find a balance between responsibilities and the desire for self-gratification.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, March 12th, from 11:36 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 6:45 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, March 15th, from 3:32 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Pisces at 6:12 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Saturday, March 17th, from 9:12 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to the Sun), until the Moon enters Aries at 2:57 PM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on March 17th — a period that is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week from Wednesday, March 14th, at approximately 5:55 PM EDT, until Thursday, March 15th, at approximately 3:30 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Aquarius. Another window occurs from Thursday, March 15th, at approximately 6:15 AM, until the New Moon on Saturday, March 17th, at approximately 9:10 AM, keeping in mind the Moon is Balsamic during this period, up until half an hour before the New Moon, when we have a Cazimi Moon. The Cazimi Moon occurs from approximately 8:45 AM to 9:40 AM EDT on March 17th.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury square Saturn. Getting from point A to point B can be a challenge during this transit due to obstacles. Communications may be blocked or delayed, and negative thinking could dominate at this time. Projects we thought were complete may need revision, and others could appear overly critical, insensitive, or sarcastic. It’s difficult to trust our instincts, and we second-guess things automatically under this influence. Avoid signing on the dotted line at this time.
Mercury sesquiquadrate Jupiter. We experience information overload, and we neglect to consider details. People tend to exaggerate today.
Mars trine Uranus. Bursts of energy and creativity. We are willing to take risks, possess personal courage, and can readily effect positive changes in our lives. We are naturally bold and assertive, willing to experiment, and conscious of a need to act independently. Our ideas may be ground-breaking, and at the very least progressive. A strong desire to make things happen is with us now.
Sun sextile Pluto. Research brings rewards. We benefit now from strategy and keeping things to ourselves for the time being. Opportunities to find or renew something we had lost, and to gain some power are available now.
Venus square Saturn. Gaining what we want is challenging under this influence, due to negative attitudes and the tendency to need more than what is possible. Difficulties socializing with others stem from an increased sensitivity to rejection as well as stiffness with the affections. Emotional distance in relationships. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be “money pits” as time passes.
Venus sesquiquadrate Jupiter. We might take great strides to get noticed. Avoid impulsive buying. Problems in our personal life likely won’t get resolved under this influence. Avoid hasty (or haughty!) decisions. We might overstate our feelings or promise more than we can deliver, and the tendency to overdo is strong.
Sun trine Jupiter. This influence is about growth and expansiveness. We are more aware of moral issues, and have a desire to improve and learn. Optimism and confidence are basic elements in the energy of this transit. We are more willing to take a risk or two, and we are motivated by a desire to impress others. Enthusiasm runs high, and cooperation comes easy. This is generally a good time to schedule new beginnings in business, education, personal relationships, marriage, creative projects, and so forth, all things equal.
Mars square Chiron. It can be challenging expressing our desires and our anger clearly and directly under this influence. There can be a tendency to rebel against others’ wishes or plans. We may be defensive and touchy, and resentments or frustrations can surface now.
Jupiter semi-square Saturn. We’re forced to do things by the book, but may not want to. Shortcuts don’t work right now – we need to follow the rules. When we think in big terms, or if we have the urge to expand, we confront obstacles or we are forced to face reality. Some re-structuring of our lives and of our business goals is now in order. We may be looking for new challenges, sometimes because we are forced to do so (because things are not going exactly as we had planned). We have a desire to grow and expand, but our attitude is tempered with some caution and feelings of restriction. There is no “easy fix” just now. It is best to breathe new life into old plans rather than to strike out with a new plan altogether. Take steps to grow, but don’t overextend yourself at this time or you are bound to face frustrations.

MARCH 11
Very early today, Mercury forms a square to Saturn and a sesqui-square to Jupiter, suggesting challenges making decisions, serious or negative thinking, and difficulties getting our message across clearly. However, Mars forms a trine to Uranus in Fire signs and the Sun forms a sextile to Pluto today, suggesting rich opportunities to invent, grow, and transform. We are willing to experiment and make positive changes, yet we’re also very skilled at seeing where to improve on what we already have going for us. We are naturally bold and assertive, willing to experiment, and conscious of a need to act independently. However, we’re also a little more ambitious, determined, and dedicated, recognizing the need to wait and see if it works better for us. The Moon spends the day in Capricorn. Its sextile to Neptune points to opportunities to add personal, creative, and imaginative touches to our projects and pursuits.
MARCH 12
The Moon continues its transit of industrious, capable Capricorn until 6:45 PM EDT, encouraging us to pay attention to structures, rules, and goals in our lives. The Capricorn Moon harmonizes with the Sun and Jupiter this morning, promoting cooperation, encouragement, and reconciliation. The Moon moves into Aquarius at 6:45 PM, stimulating our progressive or revolutionary spirits. The Aquarius Moon is determined, principled, and non-traditional. It draws out our humanitarian impulses and desire for innovation. Even so, we’re getting closer to a Venus-Saturn square, exact tomorrow morning, that can point to blocks to pleasure or self-protectiveness that limits our experiences.
The Moon is void from 11:36 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 6:45 PM EDT.
MARCH 13
Venus forms a square to Saturn this morning, and there can be a reality check. Insecurities may cloud our judgment of worth and value for now. Gaining what we want is challenging under this influence, perhaps because we need more than what is currently possible. Difficulties socializing with others stem from an increased sensitivity to rejection as well as stiffness with the affections. However, a trine between the Sun and Jupiter this afternoon encourages a desire to grow, expand, improve, and impress. Whether it’s a business venture, friendship, attitude, or relationship, we want to bring it to a new level. Optimism and confidence are core elements in the energy of this transit. Enthusiasm runs high, and cooperation comes readily. Later today, however, we move towards a Mars-Chiron square, and it can be challenging expressing our desires and our anger clearly and directly. There can be a tendency to rebel against others’ wishes or plans. We may be defensive and touchy, and resentments or frustrations can surface now. Old emotional wounds may feel as if they’re wide open with this transit. The Moon spends the day in Aquarius.
MARCH 14
Jupiter forms a semi-square with Saturn today, and this is the second of three of these longer-term aspects in a series, the first of which was in December 2017. The third and final Jupiter-Saturn semi-square will occur in September. This is a time when we’re reminded of the stop-and-go or ebb and flow nature of long-term projects. This is not the time to take shortcuts. Moves that are too big seem to meet with obstacles now, so it’s a time for taking baby steps or for fixing mistakes and making edits before moving forward. Some re-structuring of our lives and our business goals is now in order. Still, we’re attracted to new approaches and might find it difficult concentrating on lifeless or ordinary tasks later today with the Moon’s sextile to Uranus. It’s a good time for looking forward with patience.
MARCH 15
The Moon continues its transit of Aquarius until 6:12 AM EDT, after which it transits Pisces. The Moon in Pisces offers us a nice window for getting in touch with our dreams and imagination, and the Moon’s sextile to Saturn tonight helps us put these things to work. A New Moon will occur in the sign of Pisces in just two days, however, and today and tomorrow are better for winding down rather than putting our energies into new ventures. Today is also useful for connecting with people who share our intellectual interests or who introduce us to new ideas that help us to grow, improve, and expand.
The Moon is void from 3:32 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Pisces at 6:12 AM EDT.
MARCH 16
On this day before a New Moon (in Pisces), reflection is favored over innovation. It’s best not to begin a new project, relationship, or other important initiatives during the Balsamic phase of the Moon, as it is a time of endings and symbolic descent into unconsciousness. Today’s energy is acutely sensitive on psychic levels, as we tune in to all that is hidden or unspoken, and the Moon passes over Neptune in the sign of Pisces. Tomorrow, the Moon will also align with the Sun (forming a New Moon) and Chiron. This is an excellent time to connect with or process what we’ve learned during the Moon cycle that is ending tomorrow. The Moon spends the full day in Pisces.
MARCH 17
The New Moon occurs this morning in the sign of Pisces. This New Moon gives us the opportunity to start fresh and is an excellent time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Fish. These include taking a leap of faith, accepting imperfections in ourselves and others as a different kind of “perfection,” starting a project that requires imagination and visualization skills, consciously setting time aside for peaceful and rejuvenating activities, and sharing a dream with another. With this strong Pisces energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives. While we’re likely to feel very inspired, and this New Moon can motivate us to take a leap of faith, we should watch for impatience and impulsive moves, since this lunation is square to Mars, and Mars is on the verge of changing signs and is thus especially vulnerable/volatile. Words can sting now, although they can also prompt a “turning over a new leaf” moment and fuel a new beginning. The Sun/Moon also form a semi-sextile to Uranus, and we can struggle a little with whether or not to go our own way. Mars moves into the sign of Capricorn early afternoon (Eastern time) and will transit the sign until May 16th. Mars in Capricorn is deliberate, persistent, and faithful energy. We consider the future and the consequences before taking action during this cycle. We are slow to anger but can be quite cold if we are frustrated. The shadow side of Mars in Capricorn is rigidity or excessive materialism.
The Moon is void from 9:12 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to the Sun), until the Moon enters Aries at 2:57 PM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Pisces The mystic, the martyr, the sinner, and the saint: these archetypes take on greater importance in your life at a time like this. Forgiveness, compassion, and understanding come naturally, when you look at life from an eternal perspective – and if anyone ever does know such things, you’ll probably come to understand them as this cycle unfolds. This can be a phase of sublime spiritual development, to be sure. But you should be aware of tendencies to believe too quickly, too deeply, or to become dependent on things or people that seem to offer quick and easy answers to life’s deepest yearnings.
Mercury in Aries New ideas and an independent or pioneering mental orientation take on more importance in your life at this time. Teaching, learning, communicating, and social contact have a way of outlining new directions in your life now, and there is much activity and involvement with these kinds of issues.
Venus in Aries Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you’re eager to accept – and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness – or the happiness of pursuit?
Mars in Sagittarius Ideology is a keynote of the new phase you have begun – the power of ideas and the power they wield over people. Religious, cultural, or philosophical controversies and crusades have a way of stirring your blood. Travel and adventure are compelling temptations as you dare to test your mettle and stretch your horizons.
Mars in Capricorn With this new cycle taking hold in your life now, taking charge and being in control become more important issues for you. You want to get things organized, and you have the initiative to do it. This is a time of ambition and responsibility, a time to keep your cool and pace yourself. Working hard is smart, but working smart is better.
Jupiter in Scorpio The phase now beginning for you emphasizes fixing what is broken or unhealthy, thereby giving it a new lease on life. This is more than one person alone can handle, so the cooperation of others is essential. You give up something in order to get or create something, and you may not understand the reasons why at the time. Sex, money, power, and vitality become key issues.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
