No event occurs in this calendar week in the 4-phase cycle. LAST WEEK: The LAST QUARTER MOON occurred on Friday, November 22nd, 2024, at 8:28 PM EST.
On Friday, the 22nd, the Last Quarter (or Third Quarter) Moon occurred when the Sun in Sagittarius formed a square with the Moon in Virgo.
The Last Quarter Moon phase points a crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again.
This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. We might consider recent revelations, what they mean to us, and our next steps. As we advance, it’s a better time to tie up loose ends, take inventory, and let go if necessary. We’re sorting out what does and doesn’t work for us.
The Last Quarter Moon Chart:
This phase of the Moon occurs at 1 degree and 15 minutes of Virgo square the Sun at the same degree of Sagittarius, affecting planets at approximately 29 to 30 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) and 0 to 3 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) the most.
NEXT WEEK:
The NEW MOON will occur on Sunday, December 1st, 2024, at 1:21 AM EST.
Very early Sunday, December 1st, the New Moon will occur in the sign of Sagittarius when the Sun and Moon align.

This week: The Sun is in Sagittarius; Mercury is in Sagittarius; Venus is in Capricorn; Mars is in Leo.
The Sun is in Sagittarius from November 21-December 21. With the Sun in Sagittarius, our focus shifts from the need for an intimate connection with a person and with ourselves, to the desire to reach out to the world and connect with something larger than ourselves.
While the Sun moves through this fiery, mutable sign, we can take steps to increase our understanding and awareness of the world around us. We are more able to muster up the courage to expand our horizons and branch out into new ways of thinking.
We can gain more confidence and optimism by focusing on the “big picture” as we move away from our focus on the details of mundane existence. Although we may be prone to overdoing our expectations, we have the opportunity to nurture our faith, hope, and vision under this influence.
Mercury is in Sagittarius from November 2, 2024-January 8, 2025 [Lengthier than usual due to a Mercury retrograde cycle that occurs entirely in the sign of Sagittarius from November 25th to December 15th]. When Mercury is in Sagittarius, our thinking shifts from a need to plumb the depths of any given situation to the desire to learn about a wide range of topics. We seek ideals, our thinking is more optimistic, and our faith increases. We are more equipped to believe and to persuade. What is fair and unfair concerns us most now. However, we are not always very precise under this influence.
We’re more inclined to ask questions and seek answers during this forward-looking cycle. We might often wax philosophical, and we enjoy wrapping our minds around new concepts and ideas. Still, the details are not as interesting to us now, as we prefer to envision the big picture.
On the downside, we can be inconsistent and lack attention to details. While frank and open, we can also be tactless during this period. We’re generous with our communications and input, and we’re humorous and friendly at this time.
Venus is in Capricorn from November 11- December 7. Getting serious about our finances and boosting our relations with business partners and/or co-workers will be easier than usual under this influence. Our talents for creating artistic structure and form are enhanced, and our ability to form connections with people who support our ambitions increases.
We value enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We take expressing our feelings seriously, and we take our time to warm up to others. We generally keep our “cool” in relationships. We’re steadfast and seek genuine, perhaps old-fashioned connections. It’s not a time for PDA, and we can be somewhat guarded and reserved with expressing our feelings or revealing our relationships.
The underdog who works hard can have their time in the sun now. We value slow and steady effort and long-term prospects. Reliability in others is most attractive.
This cycle favors getting along well with higher-ups, conservative business goals and ventures, long-term investments, and matters related to pension.
Mars is in Leo from November 3, 2024, to January 6, 2025, and then April 18-June 17, 2025. [Why so long and in two steps? Mars transits Leo, but then turns retrograde on December 6th, 2024. While retrograde, Mars returns to Cancer (on January 6th, 2025). Mars turns direct on February 23rd and then enters Leo again on April 18th.] In Leo, Mars is proud, self-confident, and grand. We are spirited and have grand goals. We go after what we want in a direct, self-assured manner, desiring dramatic results. We prefer not to worry about details, and take the least complicated route to our goals. The sex drive is strong, and passion for life is high.
Mars in Leo can awaken a competitive spirit or drive. We’re more willing to take risks to get what we want. We also tend to make a splash, and we want to be in the driver’s seat. This transit is passionate, ardent, and dramatic. We seek to appear strong and prefer to be in the lead or the center of attention. We can be particularly angry if we feel disrespected or in an undignified position.
Jupiter is in Gemini.
Jupiter began its transit of Gemini on May 24th, 2024, and continues its transit of the sign until June 9th, 2025. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Gemini.
Saturn transits Pisces from March 7th, 2023 until May 24th, 2025, and Sep 1st, 2025, to Feb 13th, 2026. Read about Saturn’s transit of Pisces. Saturn will enter Aries on May 24th, 2025.
Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Pluto is in Aquarius. Read about Pluto’s transit of Aquarius. Note that Pluto finally completed its journey through Capricorn last week, on November 19th, 2024, from which time Pluto stays in Aquarius for many years to come.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Capricorn from November 11-December 7. Venus in Capricorn is a cycle in which security and stability in our relationships are paramount. We are more cautious with our emotions and somewhat skeptical of both our own feelings and others’ expressions of affection. Longevity is important to us under this influence.
There is a formality to Capricorn that can make personal expressions seem awkward and forced. However, this cycle offers us the opportunity to consider some of the practical issues of our relations and to work on making our partnerships work in the real world. A dose of realism in our personal lives can help us to feel more grounded and secure in the long run.
This week: On Tuesday, with our tendency to communicate our feelings, we may misrepresent ourselves. We’re more expressive, although we may be living more in our heads than our hearts. We’re inclined to analyze feelings or relationships, particularly past ones. We tend to chat, socialize, and flatter when Mercury and Venus meet, and with Mercury retrograde, we may be looking back and clarifying feelings or connections. We tend to intellectualize emotions and affections. It’s a friendly time, but it’s also a time for looking back at old issues in a new, although possibly glossed-over, way. Whether or not glossing over is helpful is the question — some things belong in the past.
On Wednesday, there can be some reluctance to commit or to show our affections if we let our insecurities rule our behavior.
Friday brings more awkwardness. We should watch for misrepresenting what we feel again now. There can be a temporary disconnect between the heart and mind.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Capricorn Marry for money and then learn to love ’em: that’s what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so – but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.
Venus sextile Saturn November 21-22. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor.
Venus quincunx Jupiter November 26. A strong desire for the pleasures of life is with us now, although our eyes are often bigger than our stomachs. Troubles in relationships now are likely due to overblown expectations. It can be challenging to find a balance between responsibilities and the desire for self-gratification.
Venus parallel retrograde Mercury November 26. It’s a time when we review our affections, relationships, and past connections.
Venus square Chiron November 27. Not a commitment-friendly transit. We are somewhat fearful of investing ourselves emotionally in a relationship.
Venus semi-sextile Mercury November 29. It may be all too easy to say things we don’t mean/feel.
Venus trine Uranus December 1-2. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit.
Venus parallel Pluto December 3. The desire for drama and intensity in relationships is with us. Love feelings and relationship issues can be all-consuming now, assuming more importance in our lives than usual. Interactions with others are intense now, and themes of sharing and trust dominate in relationships.
Venus sextile Neptune December 3-4. Unusual attractions that add imagination, inspiration, and emotional “color” to our lives may occur now. We are attuned to the subtleties of human interaction, and we are more inclined to naturally cooperate with others. An imaginative, romantic time.
Venus semi-square Saturn December 5. Feelings of isolation, of not getting what we really want, and of not being loved the way we want to be loved can get in the way of pleasant relations with our partners.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, November 25th, from 12:35 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Neptune), until the Moon enters Libra at 6:20 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, November 27th, from 4:14 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mercury), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 7:21 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Saturday, November 30th, from 1:20 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Neptune), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 6:54 AM EST.
November 2024:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waning this week, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, although with some exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week from Tuesday, November 26th, at approximately 8:00 PM EST, until Wednesday, November 27th, at approximately 4:10 AM EST, while the Moon is in Libra. Caveat: Mercury is retrograde during this window.

NOVEMBER 24
The Moon spends the day in Virgo, encouraging a helpful, dedicated, moderate, and detail-oriented theme. However, we may be easily distracted in the hours surrounding the morning’s Moon-Jupiter square and the afternoon’s Moon-Mercury square. It can be challenging to express what we intend. These aspects could indicate missteps due to overblown expectations. The Moon’s trine to Uranus helps us find easy, creative, and inventive channels for expressing the Virgo Moon’s energies, however. As well, a creative quintile between Venus and Neptune boosts our ability to solve interpersonal problems and is strong for intuitively understanding and getting along with others. We appreciate subtleties and nuances more than usual.
NOVEMBER 25
The Moon continues its transit of detail-oriented Virgo until 6:20 AM EST, when it enters Libra. Before it leaves the practical sign, the Moon opposes Neptune, leaving us with questions and distracting us from our current mission. With the Libra Moon, we’re gracious, accommodating, and willing to meet people halfway. With its trine to Pluto, we’re especially aware of our social skills and need for more effective communication. We’re determined and ready to make long-lasting changes. , A sextile with the Sun promotes cooperation. The Moon aligns with the South Node this afternoon, and the inclination is to fall back on depending on others at the expense of our self-confidence. It’s crucial to remember our own strengths.
Mercury stations and turns retrograde today in the sign of Sagittarius, and it will continue its retrograde journey until December 15th. Some delays or information clogs are possible. During this cycle, our thinking turns inward as we review and reassess matters.
Mercury retrograde periods can be times of heightened inner awareness–times when meditation, journaling, reworking old plans, and reviewing past work are favored more than usual. Minor breaks in the mechanical aspects of communication and transportation can reconnect us to other, possibly more meaningful, means of connecting.
This retrograde cycle is strong for reviewing our beliefs, ideas, sense of adventure, spirit, publishing pursuits, and educational goals. We look at projects, items, situations, problems, and even people in new ways. There can be information clogs that push this new perspective–as we wait, we become more resourceful and creative! The more difficult times are the periods of the shifts themselves (the days surrounding the stations — today and December 15th), after which we grow more and more accustomed to the motion.
The Moon is void from 12:35 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Neptune), until the Moon enters Libra at 6:20 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 26
Venus forms a quincunx with Jupiter today, and while it’s a minor aspect, it can stir some restlessness and indecision about putting ourselves out there. A strong desire for the pleasures of life is in emphasis, although our eyes can be bigger than our stomachs. Challenges in relationships now are likely due to overblown expectations. Finding a balance between what we want to do and what we think we should do can be challenging.
However, the Sun forms a trine with the North Node in Aries and heads toward a trine to Mars in Leo, gearing us up for action and improving decisiveness. This combination is energizing and supports physical activity, initiative, and enterprise. Energy and vitality are strong. We want to put plans into motion, take the lead, and keep busy. Enthusiasm and confidence run high, and our sense of timing is good. Belief in ourselves is natural. Stress eases as we feel confident about our abilities and our judgment. We’re ready to aspire to our goals, rise to a challenge, and grow and improve. The desire for more meaning and purpose in our actions is at the forefront. While we can readily act independently, cooperation can also bring rewards today.
NOVEMBER 27
Saturn forms a quintile to Uranus today–an outer planet transit with longer-term influence that first perfected in February, formed again in September, and now forms its final perfection. With this aspect in play, we pride ourselves on being calm and steady in the face of change. We gravitate to a balance between the new and the old, the tried-and-true and the progressive. As we look for ways to improve, we have our feet on the ground. We’re original without going out of our way to be off the wall.
With a Venus-Chiron square tonight, we may withdraw or hold back, however, as we’re easily rebuffed or hurt. We can feel somewhat drained temporarily, although this does allow us to refuel with more authentic motivation. Temporarily, it’s not easy to assess what we genuinely value. A good approach would be to recognize and explore our feelings of vulnerability.
The Moon continues its transit of Libra until 7:21 PM EST, when it enters Scorpio. The Libra Moon is compromising and unifying. Harmony is a goal with this Moon transit, and because the lack of it can be emotionally unsettling, we’re more inclined to negotiate and accommodate. With the observant and intense Scorpio Moon, we explore the layers of people and situations.
The Moon is void from 4:14 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mercury), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 7:21 PM EST.
NOVEMBER 28
The Moon continues its transit of Scorpio all day, drawing our attention to complexities, intangibles, and mysteries. The Scorpio Moon forms a square with Mars this morning, awakening our passions and bringing some emotional drama into our lives. Impulsive feelings are likely now. We tend to act out, take unnecessary risks, or seek extra stimulation. However, the day’s energies are steadier as it advances. We want to be productive, and taking responsibility is not only empowering, but it comes naturally. With today’s Neptune-Ceres sextile, we are more naturally helpful and supportive on emotional or spiritual levels. We’re generous with our compassion but may also need moments to escape and be by ourselves.
NOVEMBER 29
The Moon spends the day in Scorpio, and we seek a stronger emotional connection to the world around us or a particular project or person. It’s a time of observation and strategy. With the Moon’s sextile to Venus early afternoon, we’re embracing ways to blend, balance, and cooperate with one another. Around the Moon-Uranus opposition this evening, something can jar us out of our routine, such as a confrontation, an unexpected change of plans, or acting on a whim. It’s best to keep our options open because our plans or schedules may not materialize. We might be seeking a loophole or a way out of emotional responsibilities, and we’re not very compromising. Ultimately, there can be a boost to our intimate life and self-understanding. It’s a great time to dig up new information or uncover hidden things. Today’s Mercury-Venus semi-sextile can serve to subtly contrast a logical and playful approach. With this influence, it’s too easy to say things we don’t mean or feel. However, while we may not be very focused, we’re adaptable and trying to understand one another.
NOVEMBER 30
The Moon continues in intense Scorpio until 6:54 AM EST, when it enters adventurous Sagittarius. The Sagittarius Moon is enthusiastic, confident, and forward-looking. It sparks our desire to learn, explore, and discover—a change of scenery or break in the routine appeals now. We set our sights high. Optimism is one of the positive traits of this position; neglecting to see the essential details is a potential problem. Mercury’s sesquiquadrate with Mars adds some edge and perhaps agitation to the morning. There can be nervous excitement, quick words, and tense or stimulating conversations. We should watch for rushing things, impatience in speech and movements, and abrupt or insensitive commentary. However, mental tension can stir us into action, which can be constructive if channeled well. We can accomplish more if we’re careful to pace ourselves. It’s best to put in the effort to respect and validate others when expressing what we need and want.
The Moon is void from 1:20 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Neptune), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 6:54 AM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Virgo
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Sagittarius You’re now embarking on a trek into a land of dreams – not passive daydreams, but vibrant visions of what may be. The time has come to stop looking at the world as it is and asking why. Now’s the time to imagine the world as it could be, and the question has become: “Why not?” You also cannot do everything you imagine now, but you cannot do anything you don’t KNOW you can do – so believe, and dare to make it happen! This means expanding your mind, your belief system, your whole base of knowledge and experience. Time’s a wastin’ – let no grass grow between your toes!
Mercury in Sagittarius A time of expanding your mental horizons is at hand. Religion, philosophy, law, and education are some of the things that may have special importance for you now. Being in touch with faraway people and places satisfies an intellectual yearning – curiosity will take you anywhere and maybe everywhere.
Mars in Leo The thrill of the chase, the smell of the greasepaint, the roar of the crowd: that’s what gets your juices flowing now that you’ve entered a new cycle. To be appreciated, to be admired (adored, even) – that’s what you crave. It’s a time of creativity, drama, and passion; a time when grabbing the spotlight and stealing the scene gives you a thrill. Is winning everything? No – but it’s way ahead of whatever comes in second!
Jupiter in Gemini Facilitating the transfer of ideas and information takes on a special priority for you now. Writing, studying, and communicating play a bigger role in your life as a result. The belief that well-informed people will make the right decisions becomes an article of faith. Just remember: sometimes people know the right thing to do and STILL do something different!
Saturn in Pisces Making peace with the past, coming to terms with karmic debts: these are some of the issues that confront you as a new phase begins in your life. Failure to face these things can cause setbacks and put obstacles in your path. Learn to look beyond the narrowly personal and selfish or you’ll get in over your head.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life.
