Daily Trends
The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Wednesday, July 6th, 2022, at 10:14 PM EDT.
On Wednesday night, a First Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Cancer forms a square with the Moon in Libra.
There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, and we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we become aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
With a First Quarter Moon, we may want to get something going, but we may not know the next step or the exact direction we want it/us to take. Most suitable activities now include taking action, pushing forward, making offers, researching more options, meeting new people, and gathering new/additional supplies you may need to further a project. It’s best to watch for overconfidence or overshooting the mark. We might use the stress generated now to make changes.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 14 degrees and 59 minutes of Libra, square to the Sun in Cancer at the same degree, affecting people with personal planets and points at approximately 13 to 17 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Cancer; Mercury is in Gemini until July 5th, when it enters Cancer; Venus is in Gemini; Mars is in Aries until July 5th, when it enters Taurus.
The Sun is in Cancer from June 21-July 22. We are self-protective and insular under this influence. Our attention turns to our nest–our families, homes, and anything that makes us feel “at home,” safe, and secure.
Nurturing and caring for our loved ones and pet projects come into focus. Emotions run deep, and we easily tune in to the world of feelings. Note that we are more in tune with the Moon while the Sun is in Cancer.
We may not want to grow up and face responsibilities or the outside world during the Sun-in-Cancer cycle. We should watch for dependence when we’d do better for ourselves otherwise. However, it’s a robust transit for recognizing our needs for comfort, safety, and familiarity. We’re inclined to form strong bonds and protect our loved ones.
Mercury is in Gemini from April 29-May 22, and from June 13-July 5. When Mercury is in Gemini, we are especially communicative, curious, and sociable. Mercury rules Gemini and feels right at home in the sign. We tend to take more pleasure in gaining a superficial knowledge of many subjects rather than dig deep into any one topic.
When it comes to making a point or debating, we are especially astute while Mercury is in Gemini. We are attracted to wordplays, puns, and negotiations, and we’re easily distracted. It’s a time when we’re more interested in trivia, information tidbits, and detached observations. There can be frequent changes of mind and subject. We’re flexible and quick to grasp topics.
Mercury is in Cancer from July 5-19. When Mercury is in Cancer, we move from the desire for quantity with information to the need for quality. We think, speak, and take in information on a deeper, more instinctive level. We have less interest in what is universal and more interest in what affects us personally and the people close to us. Our thoughts are colored by our emotions, making it more challenging to be objective.
We have outstanding and detailed memories during this cycle. We’re more likely to absorb information about the emotional background or atmosphere/setting around us, picking up on moods and tones in addition to facts.
While we may not have great confidence in our ability to generate new or original ideas, we have a well-developed sense of humor and radiate warmth in our communications. We take great interest in (and notice of) personal issues and interactions during this period. We don’t care much for intellectual stands if they’re devoid of a personal or heartful element, and we need intimate settings to express ourselves fully.
Venus is in Gemini from June 22-July 17. With Venus in Gemini, we have a finger in every pie. Curiosity motivates us on romantic and social levels. “Variety is the spice of life” is the motto now. We are friendly, communicative, charming, and interested.
While it’s a time when we can be animated and fun, we may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions often begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level while Venus is in Gemini. We’re most attracted to mentally interesting people. Sometimes, our curiosity leads us into relationships that we might not form otherwise. The shadow side of Gemini is fickleness or disinterest in profundity.
Venus in Gemini is flirtatious, captivating, and adaptable. We ask questions and want to keep things light and lively. During this transit, we do best when we’re mentally engaged and our desire for variety is addressed. Social stimulation is appealing. Good fortune with transportation and communication can figure strongly.
Mars is in Aries from May 24-July 5. Mars feels at home in Aries, one of the signs that it rules, and therefore its power is boosted. Our energy is spontaneous, forward-looking, and even courageous under this influence. Our competitive spirit is well-developed, and our goal is to win! We are active, single-minded, and confident.
Our actions are direct–we instinctively find the fastest way to get from point A to point B. The shadow side of Mars in Aries is a tendency to be impatient, arrogant, impulsive, short-lived, unreflective, and self-centered.
We pursue our goals straightforwardly, confidently, unabashedly, and directly with Mars in Aries. The same goes for expressing anger. We want to be first, come first, and do things on our own–our independence, enterprise, and initiative are well-developed.
This transit is better for endeavors that require courage and strong but not necessarily sustained passion and energy. We don’t want to look back or overthink–we only concern ourselves with what we can accomplish right now. Not inclined to beat around the bush, we confidently pursue our desires.
Mars is in Taurus from July 5-August 20. During this cycle, we are determined, stubborn, and resolute. Mars in Taurus can be passive until provoked, and is at its strongest when digging in its heels, outlasting, or defending something! In stark contrast to the impulsive Mars in Aries cycle, we tend to pursue our goals by plodding along patiently. We seek longevity and long-term satisfaction.
While Mars is in Taurus, we’re slow to change course or get started but persevering. Preferring methodical work over creative methods, we seek predictability and stability. We can be stubborn and resistant to change, and we’ll work hardest for material security. It’s not a time when we readily take risks. Instead, we seek concrete, long-lasting results. Our stamina is great, and our cravings and physical needs/desires are prominent.
Jupiter is in Aries.
Jupiter is in Aries from May 10 to October 28, 2022. This is part one of two, with the second and final part occurring from December 20, 2022, to May 16, 2023. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Aries.
Jupiter will head back into Pisces from October 28 to December 20, 2022–the final part of three in the Jupiter-in-Pisces transit. Read more about the Jupiter in Pisces transit.
Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Gemini from June 22-July 17. In Gemini, Venus is communicative, sociable but emotionally aloof, insatiably curious, and a little bit flighty. Fickleness with our affections is a strong possibility, but the desire for a meeting of minds is strong and the urge to socialize dominates. Some detachment from our emotions is likely, which may be a breath of fresh air for some. The lines of communication open, although we may only scratch the surface of things. Under this influence, love is playful and lighthearted. Fickleness is the shadow side of Venus in Gemini.
This week: On Sunday, the 3rd, we can be wrestling with suspicion or fears.
Watch for impulsiveness and impatience on Tuesday. Someone may be pushy or crude when we crave something more refined or subtle, or someone is being subtle when we crave a more straightforward approach. However, by Wednesday, our hearts open, and we’re open to more intimacy and vulnerability through love or romance.
On Saturday, the 9th, we’re investing more energy and pride in harmonizing and connecting.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes natural now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. (The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular.) A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Venus sextile Jupiter June 28. This aspect generates a happy, friendly, and optimistic attitude. People are a little more outgoing and sociable. Favors travel, education, and culture. Romantic opportunities. Harmony and good will.
Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto July 3. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.
Venus semi-square Mars July 5. Tensions in relationships. Attempting to satisfy romantic needs and assertive/sexual needs simultaneously can be challenging.
Venus sextile Chiron July 5-6. Love has the power to heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings and more willing to act upon them.
Venus parallel the Sun July 9-10. A strong desire for harmony and comfort fill us now. We may be moved to express our affections.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, July 3rd, from 6:00 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mars), until the Moon enters Virgo at 8:32 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, July 5th, from 2:04 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Pluto), until the Moon enters Libra at 6:26 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, July 7th, from 9:04 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Scorpio the next day, Friday, July 8th, at 1:15 AM EDT.
July 2022:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waxing this week, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from Saturday, July 2nd, at 11:00 PM EDT, until Sunday, July 3rd, at approximately 5:55 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Leo.
Another window occurs on Tuesday, July 5th, from approximately 11:50 AM to 2:00 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Virgo.
A short window occurs from Saturday, July 9th, at approximately 11 PM EDT, until Sunday, July 10th, at about 12:30 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Scorpio.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto. This influence can point to some underlying tensions in social interactions (looking for an ulterior motive and suspiciousness) and relationships (possible jealousies). Passions run hot, but there’s a hidden agenda. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness can be brewing just under the surface of things, and they are in direct proportion to our fear of losing something or someone dear to us.
Mercury quincunx Pluto. Something we write or say could trigger power struggles or hostility from others. We may be plagued with self-doubt in our attempts to make decisions. Decisions made now are unlikely to be objective. Re-assessing decisions we have made already, or adjusting our plans, may be in order. Second-guessing.
Mercury sextile Mars. Mental alertness, enthusiasm, and energetic communications figure now. Quick decisions can be made. We are productive and take “busy-ness” in stride. We are alert and aware, and can easily turn ideas into workable projects.
Venus semi-square Mars. Potential tensions in relationships. Attempting to satisfy romantic needs and assertive/sexual needs simultaneously can be challenging. Be wary of making impulse purchases. There is an air of competitiveness under this influence, which need not be difficult. It can be stimulating and invigorating.
Venus sextile Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as learning from one another. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses. It’s a strong time for building trust in relationships.
Mercury semi-square Uranus. We can have flashes of insight, but tend to be scatterbrained. Our ideas and communications may not be well-received because they don’t seem to others to carry weight. Our minds are not peaceful or harmonious under this influence, and irritable tempers, sarcastic speech, and dogmatism are negative expressions of this energy.
Sun square Chiron. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong, but may be hampered by a lack of confidence or a fear of being different. We might experience a lack of faith in our own decisions. We could too easily follow others’ leads due to self-doubt, or simply to please them and out of fear of asserting our own desires.
Mercury square Jupiter. Information overload is possible today. It is all too easy to miss or neglect important details. We may exaggerate, have a hard time putting our ideas to practical use, or overstate under this influence. This is an unfavorable transit for travel. Our ideas and plans may be too grandiose just now. We could have a hard time convincing others of our point of view, and we could too easily jump to conclusions. There could be a lot of talk about nothing. Lack of clear mental focus, but we may make measurable progress if we can concentrate.

JULY 3
The Moon moves from expressive Leo to productive Virgo at 8:32 AM EDT. Minor challenging aspects of Pluto with Mercury and Venus today can leave us slightly off-center. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness result from a fear of losing something. We might not be able to imagine a direct route to our desires right now, possibly leading to a tendency to manipulate. Financial tensions can surface, and issues of trust can emerge in relationships. Decision-making can be fraught with Mercury quincunx Pluto. This transit suggests difficulties digesting or accepting a matter. We might have a hard time getting our message across or coming to a decision/conclusion that feels right, or we trigger negative responses from others. Tension today results from fear-based suspicions. Still, it can also be a time for recognizing the needs and desires that we’ve suppressed. Getting into a healthier relationship with these buried needs can help.
The void Moon occurs from 6:00 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mars), until the Moon enters Virgo at 8:32 AM EDT.
JULY 4
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Virgo, and we’re focusing on the details. It’s a great day to organize, help others, and manage our everyday affairs. Mercury and Mars are about to change signs, exact early tomorrow, and just after they do, they form a sextile to one another. This transit influences today as the day advances. Our minds are active, and we want to do something with our ideas, learn, teach, or debate. We are exceptionally alert, resourceful, and aware, although possibly self-focused. There is enthusiasm in our conversations and excitement about our interests and discoveries.
JULY 5
Early today, Mars enters Taurus, and twenty minutes later, Mercury heads into Cancer. These planets quickly form a sextile, boosting our enthusiasm for our ideas and methods. We can be especially alert and observant, as well as incredibly resourceful. Energies are fresh, and our minds are busy. Mars will transit Taurus until August 20th, and we can go to great lengths to protect what’s ours and build our feelings of security and comfort during this cycle. We’re determined, stubborn, and persistent. Mars in Taurus can be a relatively passive influence but full-on when resisting or defending something! In stark contrast to the impulsive Mars-in-Aries cycle, we pursue our goals by plodding along patiently. We’re looking for long-term satisfaction, although we can be particularly focused on creature comforts. Mercury is in Cancer until July 19th. During this cycle, we think, speak, and take in information on a deep, intuitive level. Our emotions color our thoughts more than usual, we communicate with more sensitivity, meaning, and care, and our memory is retentive during this cycle. It’s a time to absorb information about the emotional background, atmosphere, and setting. We’re picking up on moods and tones in addition to facts. However, today’s Venus-Mars semi-square spotlights differences in our approaches, desires, and needs, resulting in strained relationship dynamics. It’s best to watch for stirring the pot, temperamentality, or impulsive moves.
The void Moon occurs from 2:04 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Pluto), until the Moon enters Libra at 6:26 PM EDT.
JULY 6
Today’s Venus-Chiron sextile is generous and warm. We more readily express our accommodating natures and connect with our need for others. We’re open to learning to overcome our insecurities. We might more easily identify the needs and desires we’ve suppressed, and getting into a healthier relationship with this buried matter can help. We’re open to intimacy and sharing and see beauty in our imperfections. As we learn what we genuinely value, our choices and decisions about relationships and finances improve. With a Mercury-Uranus semi-square, we’re mentally excited but distractable. This transit adds minor erratic elements to the day, particularly our communications, thought processes, and outlook. We may be rushing to complete something, share an idea, or communicate, but things may end up half-done if we’re impatient. We are bored with routine, which can be a sign that we need some mental refreshment.
JULY 7
The Moon spends another day in relationship-centered, gracious, and fair Libra. This Moon is balanced and compromising, and its trine to Saturn this afternoon is steadying and clear-headed. Harmonizing is more important to us than usual with this Moon. Its square to Pluto tonight can mean our fear of betrayal, whether from the universe or a person, can lead to distrust. We should watch for swinging from a desire to be fair to suspicion, which can be confusing.
The void Moon occurs from 9:04 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Scorpio the next day, Friday, July 8th, at 1:15 AM EDT.
JULY 8
The Moon moves into Scorpio at 1:15 AM EDT, and we’re more passionate and determined. However, the Sun-Chiron square this morning can stir up insecurity or uncertainty about our direction, convictions, or purpose. A dip in confidence or faith in our resolutions and principles can lead to following others’ leads, which can later be regrettable. A better approach would be to recognize our feelings of vulnerability stirred by circumstances now. Mercury is heading toward a square to Jupiter, exact very early tomorrow, also blurring our perceptions. We need room to explore and create, visualize new solutions to problems, and express ourselves freely. However, we are inclined to exaggerate or miss the bigger point. We should watch for a strong tendency to overstate or overestimate in our quest for meaning. Mental anxiety could manifest as we can swing from blind faith to doubt, making it difficult to make good, practical choices. We might also watch for scattering our energies or taking on too many activities at once–we could be looking so far ahead that we forget the essential details or disclaimers. We might waste our time on inconsequential matters. Feelings of discontent are temporarily prominent today.
The void Moon continues today until the Moon enters Scorpio at 1:15 AM EDT.
JULY 9
Mercury forms a square to Jupiter very early today and later, a sesquiquadrate to Saturn, and we’re struggling with our expectations. Taking shortcuts can backfire now. It can be a time when we want to move ahead but get stuck editing or refining instead. Overextension can lead to frustrations. We might watch for hypersensitivity, negative thinking, and unhelpful criticism. However, the day is somewhat beneficial for identifying flaws or fixing problems. Fortunately, a Sun-Uranus sextile comes into influence later today, and we’re more willing to adapt to new circumstances, ideas, and unfamiliar situations. Spirits are high, and we’re excited about change. Group connections can be enlightening, and we’ll do our best if we embrace flexibility and innovation. We might arrive at creative solutions to problems and make happy improvements now.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Leo
The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.
The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.
When the Moon is in Virgo
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Cancer Being more in touch with your emotional roots is a keynote of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. This has to do with feelings, but it’s more than that: it’s about making the things you feel and care about a reality. At some levels, this means a greater focus on family life – parents, children, relatives, the whole domestic scene. On a somewhat broader scale, you’re likely to find that houses and other real property take on greater significance for you. Nurturing is where it’s at in your life now: making things grow and taking care of them, planting seeds that will develop and survive far into the future – that’s what it’s all about.
Mercury in Gemini A walking encyclopedia, a yen to know a little bit about everything (and everyone): these are the icons of the cycle you have just begun. Talking, writing, keeping a finger on the pulse of all that’s happening … this is a time of study and learning, a cycle of mental challenge, curiosity, and social/intellectual growth. Such things are an end in themselves rather than a means to any other end.
Mercury in Cancer Gut-level is the way you think, speak, and perceive in the cycle you have just begun. You aren’t interested in the superficial; instead, you want to get right to the root of things. You don’t care about the universal, only about how things impact you and yours. Intellect and emotion mix to the point of inseparability.
Mars in Aries Fresh challenges and initiatives light your fires now, as a new cycle begins in your life – lots of energy, a powerful urge to be first or come out on top. Away with the old and on to the new – let no one and nothing stand between you and your objective! Headstrong impulses and rash courage can take you far … sometimes in harm’s way, if you’re not careful.
Mars in Taurus Making the most of what you’ve got, striving for security and stability: that’s the impulse that stirs in you as a new cycle begins in your life. New frontiers? That’s kid’s stuff for you now! What you want is to build something that will last: a pyramid, a Great Wall – you know, that sort of thing. Steady, patient, solid: that’s your style now.
Jupiter in Aries Faith in yourself and your future is emphasized as you begin this new cycle. A feeling that anything is possible leads to new ventures, a clean break from the past. At its best, this is a very positive and optimistic new cycle in your life, but at times, overconfidence can border on foolhardy bravery. Don’t burn your bridges behind you!
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way.
