Overview of 2016

Jupiter moves through the sign of Virgo until September 9th, and we place strong emphasis on developing our skills, being of service or assistance to others, and improving our health. We value and benefit from these things. We may be more interested in learning about nutrition, health, natural or environmentally green practices, healthy habits, and practical crafts. We might particularly enjoy developing a particular skillset or learning a subject/skill more thoroughly.

Jupiter first formed a trine with Pluto in October, 2015, and does so again in March and June, 2016, with the latter date a better one for pushing plans forward. New ventures can be especially successful, but so can reviving projects already in progress. With this powerful aspect, there can be a stronger sense of confidence as well as increased ambition, gumption, and resourcefulness. We may be seeing opportunities where we previously saw obstacles, and there can be more depth and power in our pursuits.

Jupiter forms a square with Saturn in March and May 2016, and this can be a time when Saturn is laying down the law, forcing us to constrict things a little after a period of expansion, or reminding us of our limits. This is not the time to take shortcuts–they won’t work. It is best to breathe new life into old plans rather than to strike out with a new plan altogether. Take steps to grow, but don’t overextend yourself at this time or you are bound to face frustrations. Jupiter is also retrograde from January 7-May 9 — another signal to slow things down.

Jupiter enters Libra on September 9th, and will continue to transit Libra until October, 2017. This is a strong time for relationships and developing people skills. We aim to be more fair-minded and compromising. The arts, architecture, law, math, counseling, mediating, and politics are possible avenues for success. We might successfully employ charm and grace to reach goals.

Jupiter will form a square with Pluto and an opposition with Uranus while transiting the sign of Libra, and these aspects first occur in November and December, 2016, respectively. We can be quite ambitious now, feeling that if we set our sights high enough, we can achieve anything. However, treading lightly now, while it may not come naturally, is advised as it is easy to stir up opposition. We may take on too many interests, activities, or desires. The tendency now is to push too hard in general, and to ignore the important details. This is a time during which we can open ourselves up to new ways of thinking. However, we could also too easily avoid taking responsibility for things that truly matter.

Saturn transits Sagittarius all year. We grow through possible tests of faith, beliefs, and knowledge under this influence. Until we adjust to this energy, we can experience a fear of the future, some dashed hopes, worries of public disapproval (an especially real concern with social media), and fear of being held back, limited, restricted, not free, or caged in. Adjustment requires redefinition. This is a time for letting go of self-defeating attitudes that have been holding us back, recognizing exactly where we have been overdoing our expectations, and finding new, perhaps more authentic ways to nurture faith, hope, and vision. We are seeing where we’ve been overconfident, sloppy, entitled, and excessive, and how these things have ultimately contributed to stagnation, frustration, or letdown. This transit is about sincerity and authenticity. “Quality over quantity” applies. In order to really benefit and learn from this period, we need to accept that some options may be limited in order to enjoy a simpler, more fulfilling life.

Saturn’s square to Neptune is a challenging one. This can come at or close to a time when Saturn is transiting conjunct the natal Neptune for those born with Neptune in Sagittarius (1970-1984). It’s a time when many of the illusions, dreams, and fantasies we’ve been carrying can be questioned, and when our addictions and vulnerabilities can be exposed. Saturn’s square to Jupiter this year reinforces the themes of Saturn in Sagittarius in a challenging way.

Saturn’s trine to Uranus begins near the end of the year and is then with us for much of 2017. This is a time when we’re more likely to be doing what we enjoy, and enjoying what we’re doing, particularly related to career, work, and life path matters, but extending to other areas of life as well. This can be a time of firsts in the major structures of our lives. Changes we make tend to be deliberate or calculated, but possibly also quite quick. Original ideas may take form or they might be developed quite successfully now. There is an opportunity to combine stability and improvement or excitement successfully. The same can be said of innovation and tradition.

The last eclipse in the Aries-Libra polarity occurs as a Lunar Eclipse in March early in the sign of Libra. This is the final push to resolve conflicts between “me” and “you”. For most of 2016, however, eclipses continue to fall along the Virgo-Pisces service axis. A Solar Eclipse occurs in Pisces in March, and a Solar Eclipse occurs in Virgo in September. A Lunar Eclipse occurs in the sign of Pisces on September 16th.

In the summer, the first eclipse in a set falling along the Leo-Aquarius axis occurs in August as a Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius, with the second in this set only to occur in 2017. This eclipse is about striking a better balance between romance and friendship, and between expressing ourselves in personal and impersonal ways. It thrusts us into a state of heightened awareness of flaws in our friendships, attitudes towards others, and group activities. Changes are afoot! However, this will play out over two years, and this summer’s eclipse can be the first push or awakening to the need for change.

Aries

The year ahead is strong for doing important ground work, expanding a business or major project, improving your health, and, in the last quarter of the year, attracting a helpful, possibly wise, partner into your life, or improving and enhancing an existing relationship. Forming a new alliance can be in focus for some, and for others, strengthening a current one brings joy and rewards.

Until September, take every opportunity to expand and improve the work you do and your daily routines, at least up until the point of excess. This can be a time when you find truly suitable doctors, stumble upon the right information that helps you heal, and get especially good health care. Work is available to you, sometimes in excess. However, you’re making improvements that help boost your confidence and joy in what you’re doing.

Intimacy and/or financial matters can be a challenge, especially in the month of June, but also an area of important life lessons. Financially speaking, this is not about your income but about monies owed or shared with others. These are areas of flux and change, and you’d be wise to try to settle debts as much as possible.

While there is unlikely to be any shortage of work to do, the first half of the year can frustrate at times with your ruler, Mars, retrograde. Officially, this occurs from April 17 to June 29, but there is always a shadow period to deal with in the weeks surrounding the proper dates of retrograde periods. Mars is spending an unusual amount of time in your intimacy sector in the first seven months of the year. You will be learning a lot about yourself and a partner during this time. This can be animated time, when there can be struggles with the balance of power in a close relationship. Some of you could be struggling with matters of trust, passion, and possibly betrayal (more likely fear of betrayal) in a partnership in June. Others may be frustrated that they can’t yet move exciting plans forward. The Full Moon on April 22nd occurs towards the beginning of the Mars retrograde period, confounding matters, and heightening emotions surrounding these issues. It can bring an intimate matter to light. Work on anger issues regarding a spouse, intimacy, debts, and obligations to others, which can be sensitive spots for you.

This can also be a time when you’re actively trying to publish an important work, but experiencing delays. Try to treat delays as chances to make improvements, and you’ll end up with a better final product.

This is a great year for getting a whole lot of work done, and the focus should be on improving, expanding, attention to detail, and more confidence with what you’re doing and producing. You could be developing new products or redesigning your business, and recognition for your efforts is forthcoming. There can be wonderful opportunities to hook up with the right people who can help you to grow your business or improve your well-being.

From September 9th forward, you have Jupiter in your relationship sector, helping you attract truly helpful people into your life – people who tend to boost your confidence and who might add some cultural or mental flavor to your life through different perspectives and experiences. This can stimulate all kinds of new and buried feelings and desires, as well as a distinct need for excitement and action, when it comes to your close partnerships and relationships. Family and home life can be especially comforting yet exciting at the same time in 2016, dear Gemini. The last quarter of the year brings more opportunities to get out and about and enjoy yourself.

Good energy for the beginning of long-term endeavors and planning continues this year. You may get the financial backing you need to get started. There may be some strings attached, but isn’t there always? If you believe in what you’re doing, you’ll accept the challenges involved.

Career matters and final goals are a bit murky for you at the moment. This is a continuing theme that can be frustrating at times, but have some faith that it may not need to be clear-cut for the time being. Focus on what needs to be done now and explore those things that truly excite and motivate you in your spare time. It’s also important to make the right connections, particularly when it comes to business partnering, and to cut out the associations that are holding you back. Ideally, a personal partnership should also be supportive of your dreams, although there can be some challenges in this respect in 2016, which tend to sort out after September. You need a savvy partner more than ever, and you need others to put their faith in you. Major themes in 2016 are learning, skill-building, work, health, and family and home life, dear Cancer. This may not be the most glamorous of years, but it’s a time for getting your life into better order and laying important ground work.

With Jupiter in your solar third house until September and Saturn in your solar sixth house all year, you’re going to be doing a lot of learning, skill-building, and detail work, and yes, this can get overwhelming at times. Uranus in your career sector can certainly keep things up in the air, and with all of these factors combined, there can be a real sense that you’re not sure where you’re headed. However, be assured that what you’re building now will eventually pay off. You definitely need to find ways to alleviate stress and lighten the load, particularly in March and May when time management is top priority. What excites you may not always be what you need to do for the time being, but finding a better balance between your activities and responsibilities will set you on the right path, even if the end goal is not yet in focus. Even so, you’re likely to get a nice hint of what that might be, or at least a light at the end of the tunnel can appear, in December, when Saturn and Uranus form an alliance. 2016 can be a popular and fruitful year, dear Virgo. Bountiful Jupiter continues to transit your sign until October 9th, encouraging you to find everything to love about life, and about yourself as well! Jupiter comes around to a sign for approximately a year, about every twelve years. This particular Jupiter transit occurs while your sign is receiving some challenges from Saturn, Chiron, and Neptune, however, so it may feel a little tamer at times. This may in fact be a good thing, as Jupiter can be extravagant and excessive on its own, and often needs a little Saturn to bring it down to earth.

When Jupiter isn’t beleaguered, life is all about discovery, experimentation, opening up, getting around, and enjoying experiences that you typically overlook or don’t often feel empowered enough to grab. This is a time for a fresh start in some significant way. For some, it will be about home and family. For others, it’s about finances. This lucky transit occurs only every twelve years, and it’s a time for rediscovering your enthusiasm and zest for life. Use the first eight months of the year well by exploring your deeper needs, tying up loose ends, and working on boosting karma. This way, you can bring a clean slate to your Jupiter-blessed year, ready to get the most out of it.

If you feel indebted, work on coming to a better balance of give-and-take. With Jupiter in your spiritual house until September: forgive, apologize, heal, and help! You can also be a little withdrawn and rather loaded with work or personal interests that keep you busy, often at the expense of your personal life. With Jupiter in your privacy sector much of the year and Saturn stimulating more mindfulness with your communications all of 2016, you can be noticeably more introverted and less sociable until the last quarter. Scorpio

2016 is an important year for expanding your contacts, building upon your natural talents, and putting your financial affairs into order, dear Scorpio. Jupiter continues to harmonize with your sign until September 9th, and this boosts your overall mood as well as protects you from too much focus on petty problems.

Fiery, assertive Mars, one of your rulers, is a guest in your sign January 3-March 3, and then May 27-August 2nd – a total of four months compared to the average two. This boosts your energy and personal power levels, and motivates you to pursue personal plans.

However, there are hurdles, particularly while Mars is retrograde from April 17-June 29. Until the retrograde period, be sure not to overplay your hand.
