Void of Course Dates this Month
The New Moon that occurred last month on the 21st happened late in the sign of Leo and was a total Solar Eclipse. September is heavily influenced by this event. We’ve been looking for ways to take charge, and this may have emerged out of a feeling that we’re no longer in the lead in certain areas of our lives. Mars and retrograde Mercury both reach the eclipse point and join forces on September 2-3 in the same degree as that point, making this a particularly significant period for events related to the total Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 21st. It’s important to be more cautious than usual as Mercury and Mars in alignment on their own can point to hasty moves and speech. The fact that Mercury is retrograde and very close to its station and that this is happening on the eclipse point magnifies these possibilities. The signs of Leo, Virgo, and Libra are emphasized in September, and this suggests a personal and relationship-focused period. On August 26th, the Sun and retrograde Mercury met in the sign of Virgo, and this allowed the Sun to catch up with Mercury as Mercury was ahead of the Sun by degree since June. The Mercury-Sun cycle and its patterns are interesting to observe. Symbolically, we may have been overthinking and getting ahead of ourselves, but now we feel caught up. Mercury turns direct on the 5th in late Leo, and will remain in its post-retrograde shadow until September 19th (when it reaches 11 degrees Virgo – the degree at which it first turned retrograde on August 12th). During these two weeks (from the 5-19), we may be returning to recent decisions and conversations now equipped with a new perspective. The Sun transits Virgo until the 22nd, and Mars, Mercury, and then Venus enter Virgo on the 5th, 9th, and 19th, respectively. This emphasis on the sign of Virgo puts the spotlight on practicality, service, health pursuits, routines, and work. Venus and Mars will meet in the sign in early October, and we can be particularly creative with any of these Virgo-related things as we build toward this aspect. The Full Moon occurs on September 6th in the sign of Pisces, just a day after Mars entered its opposite sign, revving us up further to pursue our health and work goals. However, this is a reminder of the need to consider our spiritual and emotional wellness in the equation. The key to balance lies in identifying and expressing our spiritual needs while maintaining order in our everyday lives. Neglecting either end of the Virgo-Pisces axis will surely backfire–we would either be living in chaos or excessive order. When the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars in Virgo oppose Neptune this month, similar themes emerge (the 4-5, 19-20, 24, and 29, respectively). The New Moon occurs later in the sign of Virgo on the 20th. The New Moon occurs in the sign of Virgo on the 20th, offering us opportunities to take charge of our lives through organizing, editing, and refining work and better attention to health. This is a fertile and productive time. We’re also wrestling with expectations and dealing with matters of faith and beliefs in September as Jupiter forms a quincunx with Chiron on the 22-23 (final), forms a sesquiquadrate with Neptune on the 27th (first and last), and opposes Uranus on the 27-28 (final). Jupiter is nearing the end of its transit of Libra and is going out with a bang! Jupiter will move into the sign of Scorpio on October 10th. A project may have ended and now we’re feeling restless without it, or we could face challenges in relationships due to differing beliefs and expectations. We need to make changes but may not know what or when, and there can be bursts of rebelliousness if we are not in touch. We may be taking risks for the sake of freedom. If we are not self-aware, we might push impractical ideas and projects ahead, only to face obstacles. Circumstances are such that we need to make adjustments to our plans and goals. We may need to tame expectations — of ourselves and of others — if they are unreasonably high. We may be fighting for independence in our relationships. This is a time during which we can open ourselves up to new ways of thinking, particularly through our relationships and interactions with others. However, we could also too easily avoid taking responsibility for things that truly matter. Routine seems to be particularly unsatisfying now. This is a time when we easily take a detour from a practical path. If we’re mindful, however, this can be a period for finally gaining the courage to break from a restrictive situation, belief, or attitude. Pluto turns direct at the same time that Jupiter opposes Uranus (on the 28th). Intensity is with us in the days (and perhaps weeks for the sensitive) surrounding this date with a strong focus on ambition and the need to feel empowered. Over the coming weeks and months, the power to make deep changes in our lives becomes less internalized and more insistent and direct. We are less likely to brood over changes that we feel have been thrust upon us and more likely to make necessary changes.

MercuryMercury is retrograde until the 5th in the sign of Leo. Mars and retrograde Mercury align in late Leo at the eclipse point on the 2-3, and what we return to or dig up now can be significant, leading to important new beginnings. Mercury turns direct on the 5th and then re-enters the sign of Virgo on the 9th. While Mercury is in Virgo from the 9-29, we aim for more precision in speech and thought. This is a time when we’re inclined to do a lot of analyzing, organizing, and sorting. We’re doing catch-up work or receiving overdue news or results from the 9-19.

VenusVenus continues its transit of Leo until the 19th, and we may be kindling and/or craving drama. We are generous with our affections and our pocketbooks for the most part during this transit. Venus transits Virgo from the 19th forward (until October 14th). Our desires are a little more insistent than usual, but this can be felt as gently motivating as Venus approaches an alignment with Mars that doesn’t perfect in September, but promises it. A fertile time for work and health pursuits! |
MarsMars continues its transit of Leo until the 5th. In Leo, Mars is proud, self-confident, and grand. We go after what we want in a direct, self-assured manner, desiring dramatic results. We prefer not to worry about details, and take the least complicated route to our goals, but the details become very important after the 5th with Mars in Virgo. Mars is more particular as it transits Virgo. Our passions are to perfect, refine, and analyze our projects – to get things just right. Watch for a realization that saps us of energy or motivation around the 18-19, when Mars opposes Neptune around the 24th. |
