The Astrology of Film: The Interface of Movies, Myth, and Archetype is an absorbing collection of essays that will intrigue and inform any student of astrology interested in delving more deeply into the archetypes of the planets. Here, films are discussed in the light of archetypal psychology and astrology. Just as global events and individual lives can be observed from this perspective, films resonate with the powerful symbols of the astrological gods. The authors of the essays in this book show us exactly how rich a medium the film industry can be for studying the archetypes of the planets. Symbols associated with Jupiter, for example, are explored through the film, Chariots of Fire. The chapter, The Outer Planets and Film: Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, categorizes films into new genres altogetherthe Uranus film, the Neptune film, and the Pluto filmand includes multiple examples of movies with themes associated with the outer planets. Links are made between directors and actors and their natal charts as well as transits to their charts when the films were created.
The book analyzes films and connects them to global events and to the natal charts of movie-makers. The The Lord of the Rings trilogy, for example, is explored in terms of Saturn-Pluto. Saturn and Pluto were in opposition when the series was produced, and in fact Saturn and Pluto were in hard aspect at key points in the history of The Lord of the Rings. Connections are made between the natal charts of specific directors, such as George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, and their productions.
This book is not only for film buffs who have an interest in astrology, it is sure to enrich understanding of planetary symbols and themes for any student of astrology. The Astrology of Film is fascinating and illuminating. Highly recommended!
