Cosmic Trends: Astrology Connect the Dots was very hard to put down. The author teaches, or at least encourages, readers to associate fashion, technology, and pop culture trends with planetary cycles. He uses multiple examples and creative exercises to get his message across. Brown also extends his thoughts by forecasting some of the trends that he expects to see in the future.
The cycles of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto figure prominently. Pluto’s movement through the signs reveals broad yet highly discernible trends, not only for the cultural trends present at the time of Pluto’s transits through the sign, but also for the generations born under the sign (for example, the Pluto in Scorpio generation who carry the Pluto in Scorpio “stamp”).
The popular dark knit ski cap fashion trend is associated with the Pluto in Scorpio generation, SUV’s and gypsy-like fashions with Pluto in Sagittarius, disco with Neptune in Sagittarius, the feminist movement with the Uranus-Pluto conjunction, the explosion of the Internet with Uranus in Aquarius, and so forth.
He discusses Uranus and Neptune “trading signs”, provides multiple examples of famous people, and makes thought-provoking predictions of future trends in fashion, entertainment, and technology. The book is fascinating, even for students of astrology and astrologers who are not Mundane Astrology-inclined. Cosmic Trends is very readable and the format is appealing.
After reading this compelling book, I find myself making more “astro-connections” quite instinctively as I read news about trends, go shopping, and even as I watch kids leave my children’s high school. While I was reading the book, my Aquarius son (who refers to himself as an “observer”) told me that he has noticed a very recent trend in which hugging each other has suddenly become a standard greeting–and this includes female-female, male-female, and male-male hugging. I thought back to my high school days, when hugging simply didn’t happen unless it was between girlfriend-boyfriend, and I made the association with the current positions of Uranus in Pisces and Neptune in Aquarius (trading signs).
