Planetary aspects in the natal chart are explained and interpreted. In this case, we’re exploring the meaning of the minor aspects, the Sun quintile Pluto and the Sun biquintile Pluto in the birth chart.
With Sun quintile Pluto, Sun biquintile Pluto in the Natal Chart
This aspect is often found in the charts of people who have musical, investigative, and scientific skills. Certainly, with the Sun quintile or biquintile Pluto, there can be a marked interest in research, discovery, and transformation.
People with this aspect can also have quite a bit of magnetism, charisma, and hypnotic appeal. They can also be known for having Pluto-themed qualities or deal with these themes in their work. For example, as actors, they might be talented at portraying characters with Pluto themes, such as themes of investigation, abuse, darkness, the underworld, “bad guys,” addiction, real talkers, charisma, sex appeal, and so forth. Instead, they might gain recognition or fame, wanted or not, for their Pluto traits or experiences.
With this aspect in your chart, you could have some perfectionist or compulsive tendencies. These can work to your advantage if not taken too far, as you can really work hard to achieve your goals.
This definition can also apply to other fifth harmonic aspects besides the quintile and bi-quintile – the semi-quintile, or decile, of 36 degrees, or the vigintile of 18 degrees.

What is a Quintile aspect?
The quintile is a minor aspect (as opposed to major aspect) that occurs when we divide a circle by the number 5. It’s 72 degrees. A biquintile is twice that, weighing in at 144 degrees.
Put another way, a quintile is one-fifth of a circle and a biquintile is two-fifths of a circle.
In other words, if two planets or points are 72 degrees apart from one another, they form an exact quintile. In practice, points are rarely precisely 72 degrees apart, but astrologers allow an orb, which is often one or possibly 2 degrees for the quintile. This orb defines which aspects can be “counted” as quintiles. As such, if an astrologer allows a 1-degree orb for an aspect to get the label of quintile, then planets and points that are anywhere from 71 to 73 degrees apart will form a quintile with one another.
Note that the orb for minor aspects is typically smaller than those assigned to the major aspects.
Another note: quintiles are not rare aspects. They occur as frequently as other aspects.
The meaning of the quintile aspect
The quintile is a powerful aspect for creative manifestation. It bestows a highly sophisticated, poised, and polished quality to the chart and the nature. With this aspect between planets and/or points, we demonstrate exceptional adaptability. Those influenced by the quintile and biquintile possess a remarkable versatility and ingenuity. They have a strong affinity for balance, patterns, and design, making them dynamic and flexible in their approach. At the same time, they can be rather meticulous, painstaking, compulsive, or perfectionistic in the represented areas.
With quintiles to the Sun, the person may be known for the qualities of the planet/point involved. They may be expert at performing these characteristics, or they become known for themes related to that planet, whether it’s Pluto in this case or another astrological point or planet.
Want to quick-read a person’s chart? Certainly, quintiles involving the Sun are not major factors in a natal chart, and you wouldn’t go to them first in a quick read. However, they can help you zero in on areas that makes a person stand out.
