When the Sun is opposite Chiron in the Natal Chart
Sun opposition Chiron
With the Sun in opposition to Chiron in the natal chart, you might have struggled with expressing yourself and your creativity in your early life, giving you unique compassion for similarly wounded people. In youth especially, there may have been shyness about performing, about “being seen,” and about being allowed to shine. However, this has also shaped your empathetic nature.
You may worry about your performance and go to great lengths to avoid being criticized. For example, tactics to bypass scrutiny and criticism could include upfront self-criticism or clever maneuvering to avoid the limelight. Due to your exceptional sensitivity to these things, you can be talented at compensating, either by boosting others and sometimes living vicariously through them or by subconsciously projecting a different self to others as a means to “protect” your true self.
You can be good at inspiring and guiding others, and your advice, help, and support are sincere, but you should examine if you do these things at the expense of your own self-image and healing journey. In fact, many people with this natal chart aspect find highly creative ways to express themselves, perform, and shine as they grow and mature.
Notes on the opposition aspect:
The square, semi-square, sesquiquadrate, and opposition are also called “hard,” “challenging”, or “inharmonious” aspects.
The opposition aspect is 180 degrees. In other words, if two planets or points are 180 degrees away from each other in a chart, they are said to be “opposite” one another. They are also said to “form an opposition.”
However, it’s rare that points are precisely 180 degrees apart. Astrologers allow orbs that help determine if an aspect should be counted. For example, if we allow a 7-degree orb for an opposition, any two points falling in the range of 173 to 187 degrees away from one another would be considered an opposition. The closer they come to 180 degrees, the stronger the opposition aspect, and the further apart they are from 180 degrees, the weaker or less powerful the opposition.
The opposition creates tension between the planets or points involved.
The planets involved in an opposition can be in a state of tug-of-war. In this case, when pursuing the goals and expressing traits of the Sun, Chiron energies and objectives can clash or disagree.
Oppositions represent a state of divided loyalties. Inner discontent, uncertainty, and insecurity can result. While a square is urgent and courageous, an opposition is unsure and wavering. When we use our oppositions correctly, we are more willing to consider the other side and we can be adept negotiators.
The Sun rules all that is “light” – the rational, conscious mind. The Sun is noble and righteous by nature. Clashing with Chiron, it can have a hard time accepting the wounded Chiron energies into one cohesive whole. This is the challenge that people with the Sun opposition Chiron face.
