Mercury stations and turns retrograde very early today. Mercury’s retrograde cycle lasts until August 11th and is spent entirely in the sign of Leo. During this cycle, our thinking turns inward as we review and reassess matters.

Mercury retrograde periods can be times of heightened inner awareness, when meditation, journaling, reworking old plans, and reviewing past work are favored.

Minor breaks in the mechanical aspects of communication and transportation can reconnect us to other, possibly more meaningful, means of connecting. We view the world through different lenses, and as a result, we can uncover some significant inner revelations.

The more challenging times are the periods of the shifts themselves (the days surrounding the stations — today and August 11th), after which we become increasingly accustomed to the energy. We should be observing and reviewing rather than making critical decisions with this shift happening now.

Mercury and Venus form a sextile–a conciliatory and diplomatic influence that helps smooth over this transition. Still, we should watch for saying something we don’t mean, even if it’s to be kind.
