Our Review:
This handbook by a respected humanistic astrologer, Stephen Arroyo, is a classic guide to natal astrology essentials. Interestingly, this book was written after such books as Astrology, Karma, & Transformation and Astrology, Psychology, & The Four Elementsinteresting because this is a basic interpretive manual and his previous books were devoted to exploring specific subjects in depth.
Arroyo explains what led him to write Chart Interpretation Handbook in the Introduction to the book, and writes of his initial reluctance to write such a manual. His approach to astrology is one that encourages students of the subject to think for themselves rather than to apply rigid rules. He succeeds beautifully in this manual at presenting concise interpretations of such basics as the signs, houses, planets, aspects, and elements, effectively stripping astrology down to its basic framework without reducing it to a formulaic level.
With this book, Arroyo effectively conveys to readers the significance he places on the basic energies of the charts, and offers definitions of the planets, signs, and aspects in such a manner that encourage astrology students to grasp these essentials clearly. He writes that the purpose of the book is to help the reader focus on these essential meanings. The definitions are precise and meaningful, and readers who study the book should come away with a very solid level of understanding of the basic elements of natal astrology.
Included are interpretations of the elements, signs, planets, planets in the signs, the Ascendant and Midheaven (including aspects to these points), the houses, planets in houses, aspects, and specific planetary aspects. The planetary aspects section offers interpretations of planetary combinations in general, not individual interpretations for each type of aspect.
Students of astrology shouldn’t let books or other astrologers do their thinking for them, yet they need to grasp the essentials in order to move forward in their studies. Chart Interpretation Handbook offers students exactly the right tools to accomplish this task.
