When the Sun squares Chiron in the Natal Chart
Sun square Chiron
With the Sun square Chiron in your natal chart, something about your early experiences had you struggling to be seen or made you feel performing or being in the spotlight was uncomfortable. In some way, your creativity or self-expression was stifled in your youth, but how you overcome these feelings over the years is what makes you stand out and gives you tremendous character.
You do well at boosting others’ confidence, primarily because you’re so sensitive to feeling neglected or underestimated. With Chiron, there is a tendency to overcompensate due to this hyper-awareness. You learn to be highly inspiring, good at giving pep talks and offering very friendly and sincere advice. Healing yourself is not as straightforward!
Nevertheless, some people with this aspect express their discomfort with being the center of attention by living vicariously through someone else who they build up. Of course, it’s remarkable how well you boost others, but if you neglect doing this work on yourself, there can be some consequences for your well-being.
While you allow others to shine, you are not a follower. The idea of groupthink and following the crowd is particularly unappealing to you. Your independent thinking is not a rebellious act, but a validation of your need to process and think things through. You instinctively understand that rebelling can still keep you tied to others’ expectations and ideas, even if you’re opposing them. You’re a problem-solver and critical thinker, and you value your autonomy in deciding what to do or think.
Notes on the square aspect:
The square, semi-square, sesquiquadrate, and opposition are also called “hard,” “challenging”, or “inharmonious” aspects.
The square aspect is 90 degrees. In other words, if two planets or points are 90 degrees away from each other in a chart, they are said to be “square” one another. They are also said to “form a square.”
However, it’s rare that points are precisely 90 degrees apart. Astrologers allow orbs that help determine if an aspect should be counted. For example, if we allow a 7-degree orb for a square, any two points falling in the range of 83 to 97 degrees away from one another would be considered a square. The closer they come to 90 degrees, the stronger the square, and the further apart they are from 90 degrees, the weaker the square.
The square indicates great tension between the planets or points involved. Tension can stimulate action but can also translate into stress.
The planets involved in a square are acting at cross purposes. In this case, when pursuing the goals and expressing traits of the Sun, Chiron energies and objectives can clash or disagree.
With squares, we may overdo it and run into countless obstacles before we “get it right.” However, squares force us out of complacency and get the ball rolling. Squares are often more problematic when we are young, as these aspects force us to grow and learn our lessons.
The Sun rules all that is “light” – the rational, conscious mind. The Sun is noble and righteous by nature. Clashing with Chiron, it can have a hard time accepting the wounded Chiron energies into one cohesive whole. This is the challenge that people with the Sun square Chiron face.

Alternate interpretations:
Sun square Chiron:
You seem to thrive on the healing crisis thing. Part of your psyche likes feeling the conflict. If you’ve been a vegetarian for decades, you’re inclined to eat a fast food grease burger just to see if you can purge it. You sense you must bump up against situations to clear them. While this is true, also work diligently to stay out of situations that do not concern you nor feed your growth.
When others argue that the situation has nothing to do with you, stand clear. Certainly consider the coincidence of hearing the tirade of the moment, but leave it at that. Should you decide to offer healing services to others, you are inclined to be a confrontational facilitator. You’ll get in their face, bring up the issue and work with them to release it. You’re actually a good guide to the underworld. Just check and make sure those you lead actually signed up for this vacation package.

Sun square Chiron:
With this challenging aspect, the universe is pushing you to become more conscious. The aspect challenges you to grow. Look primarily at the house position of the Sun for the area of increased consciousness, particularly if the Sun is near a house cusp. Growth can also occur along the lines of favorable aspects to the Sun. It is best for growth if there is a healthy mix of supportive aspects and challenging aspects such as this one.
You are good at implementing an action plan. You challenge or flaunt conventional behavior and values. You prefer experimental ventures to established operations that might be too restrictive and authoritarian. People might think you brilliant but scattered. You succeed by channeling all of your love, everything that you have, into what you do. You have an inner reserve, a depth of thought and feeling, that transforms you when you call upon it. Your philosophy is, “You can’t stay put. The world is constantly changing. I’m open to anything – and that’s how I’ve met so many beautiful people and had so many incredible experiences.”
