The Moon is New in Taurus on April 30, 2022, at 4:28 PM EDT. This is a New Moon partial Solar Eclipse that occurs at 10° Taurus 28′.
This eclipse is the second in a Taurus-Scorpio set that began in November 2021 with a Lunar Eclipse in Taurus. It’s the first Solar Eclipse in Taurus in this set.
Its effects can be felt for up to six months after the actual date of the eclipse. In the sign of Taurus, matters related to personal finances, values, ownership, physical and material resources, personal possessions, feelings of worthiness, desire for safety and security, resistance to change, comfort, sensuality, and familiarity will be a strong focus on a personal level. This eclipse is about new beginnings regarding all of these matters. Long-term changes are in the works!
This phase of the Moon occurs at 10 degrees and 28 minutes of Taurus.
A similar Solar Eclipse occurred on April 29th, 2014. An eclipse set along the Taurus-Scorpio axis most recently occurred from 2012 to 2014. Before that, it was from 2003-2004.
The Solar Eclipse occurs when Venus is tightly (partile) conjunct Jupiter in Pisces. Since Venus is the ruler of this eclipse, it’s particularly significant. This eclipse aligns with Uranus and harmonizes with Mars, and we can get off to a great start mentally as we embark on new beginnings.
Occurring in Taurus, this eclipse is about strengthening our sense of security. It is a time for re-evaluating our relationship with money and possessions and discovering what it is that truly makes us happy and fulfilled. It‘s also a period for considering new ways of increasing our income or earning power. New and potent energy is with us for taking charge of our personal possessions and finances.
We should be concentrating on what it is we can do to increase our own feelings of self-worth. We are asked to get in touch with what it is that we truly value and want in our lives, and to part with those things or situations that are not, or no longer, contributing to our feelings of worthiness. This includes identifying those things that give us a false sense of security.
Sometimes eclipses bring about events that force us into this position of re-evaluation. For example on a mundane level, someone might need to move to a smaller place that requires downsizing of personal possessions; another might be in the position to pay out a large sum that necessitates an adjustment of spending habits; another might need to deal with an audit or back taxes, and the list goes on.
We might evaluate where we have been complicating our lives by our love-hate attraction to predicament and conflict or by an addiction to food or comfort items and consider what truly makes us feel content and comfortable. Knowing what it is that truly – deeply – makes us feel comfortable and pleased ultimately improves our intimate relationships. Our sensual side is enhanced, and sensual feelings heightened during this period.
During this series of eclipses in Taurus and Scorpio (from November 2021 to October 2023), we are learning about the balance of give and take. Circumstances may be such that we are pushed to see and consider others’ values rather than expect others to share the same perspective as us; as well, we need to discover our own needs and values as individuals.
We may now need to take steps towards managing and handling our shared resources with others, our debts, or taxes more effectively; as well, we need to consider whether we are contributing our share and earning what we deserve. An intimate partnership may be left behind, or a source of money might end, for example, and either of these situations pushes us to learn to depend on ourselves and to recognize that we don’t necessarily need these things to survive. Ultimately, we are now in a better position to understand that changes or endings are necessary for our own growth and that we can handle these things – that life does indeed go on. Discovering our personal power figures strongly.
This eclipse specifically, occurring in Taurus, is more about attending to the side of the equation that involves our own needs and happiness. It’s a time for investing, or reinvesting, in ourselves – our own talents, our own ability to provide for ourselves and dependents, and pursuing goals that we truly value. There is a focus on what we have built, and whether we need to clear the way for new projects and relationships, or whether we might recommit to those things that we have been building.
Our Mission:
This is a good time for focusing on some of the constructive traits of the sign of the Bull–strong-willed, consistent, sensual, enduring, deliberate, patient–and consider how to positively incorporate these qualities into our lives. Taurus New Moons are generally good for getting back in touch with simple and physical pleasures–savoring good food, and enjoying activities that bring us in touch with nature and with our bodies. It’s time to “stop and smell the roses”, and to become more aware of what makes us feel comfortable and secure.
A Solar Eclipse can stimulate a strong desire to take action. However, it will be important to avoid jumping to conclusions and asserting ourselves without considering others’ feelings and reactions. There is a big difference between asserting ourselves from a place of healthy confidence and asserting ourselves brashly and blindly, the latter giving us a false sense of confidence or bravery.
With this potent Taurus energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle. For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to these matters.
Flaws in an important system in our lives may be revealed around the time of the eclipse, prompting us to redo or to start fresh. Something ends in order for something else to start anew. We may be called upon to give up something in order to move forward into a new chapter in our lives. Although the “new” may be unrecognizable, it is important to allow the necessary surrender to the unknown.
An eclipse occurs close to the nodal axis, and this eclipse is closer to the North Node of the Moon. Eclipses close to the North Node tend to feel easier, as we have a stronger sense that we’re growing and improving. This eclipse’s alignment with Uranus adds to this progressive theme.
Challenges:
We are challenged to be more sensible and possibly conservative in our approach but, at the same time, open to making fundamental changes. We are also challenged to follow through on projects or situations that we may have abandoned or considered dropping if we deem them to be appropriate and worthwhile. We may be dealing with a certain level of stubbornness, both in others and in ourselves. It’s an excellent time for connecting with our bodies and with nature through earthy activities, as well as appreciating what we already have.
Major developments in the personal areas ruled by Taurus in our charts are likely to occur over the course of the next 3-6 months. This is the second eclipse in a series falling along the Taurus-Scorpio axis (from November 2021 to October 2023) and is the first Solar Eclipse in the sign of Taurus.
Not everyone will feel the effect of the eclipse with the same intensity. Those whose personal planets are activated by the degree of the eclipse will feel its effects more strongly on a personal level.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 10 degrees and 28 minutes of Taurus, affecting people born with personal planets and points at 5 to 15 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.
Looking Back:
A Solar eclipse occurred at approximately the same degree as this April 2022 eclipse on April 29th in 1957, 1976, 1995, and 2014. It might help to think back to these periods and consider the themes that surrounded your life then, if relevant, to get a better understanding of what the current eclipse series might mean for you.
The last series of eclipses along the Taurus-Scorpio axis occurred from November 2012 to October 2014, November 1993 to October 1995, May 1984 to April 1986, and May 1975 to November 1976.
