Moon Ascendant Aspects

A planet in conjunction to the Ascendant always takes on powerful proportions in the native's life and personality. A distinction is made between planets in the twelfth house in conjunction to the Ascendant, and planets in the first house in conjunction to the Ascendant. When found in the first house, that planet feels free to express itself. When behind the Ascendant in the twelfth house, that planet is just as powerful, but it has problems expressing itself in a direct and uninhibited manner.

Moon conjunct the Ascendant
Those with Moon in conjunction with the Ascendant in their natal charts are quite impressionable and their moods change often. This is not to say that they are weak characters--they most certainly can be strong individuals. However, they pick up tremendous amounts of impressions from their environment and are sensitive to the slightest of temperature changes (not only with regards to the weather, but feeling/spiritual sensations from people and the surroundings as well).

They can easily project confusing signals to others. On one hand, their attachment to the home and family, as well as the projection of a somewhat dependent or needy personality, gives off the impression that they are seeking warm attachments with others. On the other, they have an unmistakable streak of independence and can hold people at arm's length when they get too close. "Moody" is the best way to sum it up. Even their physical appearance is notably changeable. Women with this position tend to retain water at different stages in their cycle. Rounded faces are common in both men and women.

The desire to nurture can be very prominently projected, or the desire to be cared for. Usually, it's both, and others don't always know what to expect. There can be emotional displays quite frequently. If the Moon is in the twelfth house and conjunct the Ascendant, the emotional ups and downs are all there, but they lie below the surface much of the time. The desire to express their emotions is about as powerful as their desire to keep them hidden! The need for an outlet for emotional expression is extremely vital, and can often be found in the written word (many writers have this position). These people possess colorful imaginations, and respond instantly to pulls at the heart strings as well as emotionally evocative imagery, music, and situations. Those with the Moon in the twelfth house may be adept at hiding their emotional responses, while those with the Moon out in the open will have a hard time keeping it under wraps (if they even care to!). At the very least, their expressive faces reveal many of the moods that are going on inside.

People with a twelfth house Moon conjunct the Ascendant are often quite reclusive yet have a strong need to express their emotional, caring, and humanitarian natures in some way, especially in a behind-the-scenes manner. Both twelfth-house and first-house Moon-Ascendant natives often express a strong attachment to the family and home.

People with Moon conjunct the Ascendant are quite shy as children--sometimes painfully so. First-house Moon-Ascendant people are more apt to get over that shyness, especially if they have found a constructive channel (or a few!) for expressing their spilling-over emotions. Twelfth-house Moon-Ascendant people often remain shy much of their lives, although they do become less so with age—or at least they "manage" their shyness more effectively as the years go by. Many Moon-Ascendant people blush easily—another expression of emotions that are difficult to hide! They often project a sweet, perhaps even innocent, image—especially the women—and smile very readily. Katie Holmes and Shari Lewis are good examples of Moon conjunct the Ascendant.

The way you express yourself to others, or your body language and manner, tends to conflict with how you truly feel. You are highly emotional and your feelings demand attention immediately. While your body language is expressive, it's not always a true reflection of how you actually feel. Uncertainty about how others will respond to you if you do express your true feelings is at the root of this. You are also highly sensitive to the moods of people around you and the emotional atmosphere of your immediate surroundings, although you might interpret these things in an exaggerated fashion. As you develop and grow, and with experience, you might learn to be less self-conscious about expressing your true feelings, and less inclined to imagine disapproving reactions to them.

You are imaginative and intuitive by nature. You project a warm and caring personality to others. Others readily sense your natural concern and generally feel safe and secure in your presence. This is because you mostly feel at ease with your emotional nature. It's easy for you to work in harmony with others and with the public. You intuitively pick up on the moods of people around you, as well as on the emotional atmosphere of your immediate surroundings. You are adaptable and flexible; humorous and perceptive.
 

The trine aspect is the more dynamic of the two harmonious aspects. Those with the sextile can call upon these traits when needed, and those with the trine between the Moon and the Ascendant have incorporated the traits of the aspect into their personalities, expressing them naturally and consistently.

When the Moon is opposite the Ascendant (and therefore conjunct the Descendant)...

You are intuitive, sympathetic, and sensitive, quick to sense the needs and emotions of others around you. However, the tendency to over-identify with the feelings of others can be draining, and you can lose touch with where your feelings start and end. Getting in touch with what it is that you need will be the main challenge, but a necessary one, as you can too easily confuse others and yourself, and dependency may be a problem in your life if you don't. Your manner is expressive and emotionally animated--you come across as either emotional or caring/nurturing (or both), and generally likable.
