Venus conjuncts Mars at 15 degrees 16′  Taurus on June 21/09 at 9:09 AM ET.

venusmarsconjunctionWith Venus meeting Mars, balancing and integrating our own inner ‘masculine’ and ‘feminine’ energies is in play. It’s not only about balancing this dance of energies in our relationships with others, but also within ourselves. Venus can act to soften Mars’ aggressiveness, or Mars can stimulate Venus’ romantic impulses, making them seem more forceful and pressing. As with the Venus-Mars conjunction in Pisces in April, Venus is in a stronger position in Taurus than Mars is, as Taurus is one of the signs Venus rules.

The focus now is on sensual, simple, and physical pleasures. While earthy sensuality comes naturally to Taurus, intimacy not so much. The emphasis is on form rather than transformation; the physical aspects of relating rather than the ethereal/psychic; the enjoyment of the simple, tangible rewards of relating rather than the emotional complexities. Taurus encourages us to enjoy life’s basic and physical pleasures—savoring good food, enjoying activities that bring us in touch with nature and our bodies, such as massage, gardening; enjoying art and music, particularly dance and creative arts, such as pottery, that have us working with our hands and giving form to useful or practical things. It’s also a time to tap into our creativity to dream up new ways of increasing our income or earning power; to concentrate on beautifying and pampering our homes, gardens, and…ourselves; and to become more aware of our personal needs and wants, as well as our values.

It’s a good time to examine where we might have been complicating our lives by our love-hate attraction to predicament and conflict in our relationships. When was the last time we felt truly content and comfortable? Considering our personal needs and wants is not over-indulgent or selfish unless we take it too far. As well, knowing what it is that makes us feel comfortable and pleased ultimately improves our intimate relationships.

Physical touch can be especially arousing now, bringing us a sense of inner peace and harmony. Drama or hysterics in our relationships will be especially glaring if they do crop up, especially with Venus and Mars in hard angle to the Sun-Vesta conjunction that opposes Pluto. It’s been a rocky time for romantic relationships, in general, since March, with a lot of stop-and-go energy involving asserting ourselves and our needs, taking it back, questioning whether our needs in love are being met, resolving to let go, resolving to take action, and so forth. June’s Venus-Mars conjunction brings with it a sense of a new beginning or a chance to start fresh. While the conjunction itself is not exactly peaceful, but rather stimulating, there is a sense of calm or at least a desire to create peace and harmony being stimulated now–taking action in order to create harmony and contentment.

With this Venus-Mars conjunction in Taurus, we might give some form to what we envisioned at the time of the Venus-Mars conjunction in the last degree of Pisces (also the last degree of the zodiac) on April 21st. Venus aligned with Mars at approximately the same degree in Scorpio (Taurus’ opposite sign) on December 5, 2004 (Venus conjuncted Mars on that date at 16 degrees 34′ Scorpio). There are two instances that I am aware of in which couples who began a relationship on or close to that date are now going through a complete redefinition and overhaul of these relationships–there is a renewing of vows, so to speak, with a completely different set of “rules”. Venus-Mars conjunctions in recent years occurred on May 10. 2002 at 18 Gemini, December 5. 2004 at 16 Scorpio, October 25. 2006 at 1 Scorpio, September 11. 2008 at 15 Libra, and April 21. 2009 at 29 degrees Pisces. Venus will align with Mars again on August 20. 2010 at 13 Libra.
