Venus and Mars move into Aries

Straightforward or “me first” approaches in our love lives haven’t really been working for us recently. Venus retrograde in Aries might have brought this to our attention. Both Venus and Mars in Pisces since April 11th has had us focusing on others, and the “sacrifices” we might be making in our relationships. Mars enters Aries on the 22nd, and Venus follows on the 24th, so all of this is going to change.

What Venus retrograde in Aries has illuminated for me is that there is a time to be direct, emotionally honest, and forthright, and there’s a time to be subtle. My Aries Ascendant disagrees, asserting that being subtle is not being authentic. But sometimes taking a step back, thinking things through, and checking things out is absolutely in order. I found myself completely re-adjusting my approach to others during this past Venus retrograde cycle. Taking a breather from my more natural approach to others has been ridiculously eye-opening. If there’s a problem, I tend to want to solve it right away. I’ll put my thoughts out there and then deal with any repercussions later. I won’t think too much about what I am saying, impulsively express myself, and then pick up the pieces after the fact. But wow, can that ever do a lot of damage. I realized this during Venus retrograde, when this instinctive way of dealing with life seemed to completely backfire on me. I remembered my own advice to take a step back from this kind of behavior and took it, and life has been easier and more interesting, too.

Venus conjunct Mars in the last degree of Pisces (the very last degree of the zodiac) occurs today, and we might make some resolutions about our relationships before turning over a new leaf. With love, peace, and acceptance in our hearts, we can move forward and take positive action. With Venus and Mars traveling through Aries in the last week of April and through May, relationships are going to be lively. “Me first” is coming back with a bang. However, ideally we’ve learned a little something about Aries in the past weeks, and how to better express the energy. Ideally, we’re going to use this energy to discover what it is that we truly want from our relationships, and find a way to make it happen. Ideally, Venus and Mars in Aries will teach us that going after what we want is sexy, not selfish; that expressing our independence is healthy for our relationships, not destructive; that confidence in ourselves is attractive, not offensive.

Venus is trailing Mars, and will for some time until she catches up and conjuncts Mars again, while in Taurus, on June 21st. Venus and Mars will be traveling in the same sectors of our charts for the most part during this period, and stirring up things there.

Venus and Mars in Aries is bound to bring into play the competitive side of love and sexuality. Social relations are likely to be impassioned, and perhaps demanding or extreme at times. Venus-Mars is an impulsive energy that might generate “love at first sight” scenarios. Some level of competition is going to be present in our interactions, but it’s hopefully playful and pleasurable for the most. We are more able to state or assert exactly what it is that we want from others.

With Aries energy strongly stimulated before the New Moon shortly before the day ends on April 24th (ET), we’re likely going to be feeling a little restless, not sure of where to direct excess energy, but storming ahead is not advised before the New Moon. There won’t be answers or outlets until after the Sun and Moon align.

On May 1-3, Venus and Pluto square off again. This first occurred on February 6th, then again while Venus was retrograde on April 3rd, so we could be revisiting some of the issues we faced around those dates, hopefully with a little more panache and understanding this time around. Venus and Mars are parallel from May 1-5, which is much like a conjunction. It’s a spirited, dynamic, and vivacious energy. This is a time of balancing and integrating yin and yang energies within ourselves. We have a chance to express our needs, passions, and desires now in more effective ways. Venus is diplomatic, gentle, romantic, and sensitive, while Mars is more forceful, sexual, and assertive. Venus can act to soften Mars’ aggressiveness, or Mars can make Venus’ romantic impulses seem more pressing.
