This year, Jupiter moves through the entire sign of compassionate, spiritual Pisces, and peeks into the assertive sign of Aries for part of the year as well. Electric Uranus also enters aggressive Aries briefly in 2010. Serious Saturn continues to move through Libra, the sign that rules one-to-one relationships, including marriage and business partnerships.

What does this mean? Well, with so many outer planets occupying and visiting cardinal signs, action is highlighted this year. It’s a year in which being proactive, instead of digging in our heels and resisting change, is the more successful path to take. However, this doesn’t mean throwing caution entirely to the wind, either. The important thing to remember is that we are all touched in some manner by this changeful, action-oriented energy, some more than others, and that it would be foolish to deny that some things need to begin anew or to be reawakened. Changes are never as hard when we’re stepping up to the plate and taking an active role–taking charge of our lives–than if we were to deny that some element of change is necessary in order for us to grow and move forward.

People born early in the signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn are probably those who are in for the most changes. While the pressure is easing for most mutable sign people (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces), those born very late in the signs (26 to 30 degrees, or the last 4 degrees of the signs) have some unfinished business to take care of in 2010. The fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) mainly have Neptune and Chiron challenging them in 2010, and this only affects the latter part of the signs (23 to 30 degrees, or the last 7 days or so of the signs). For the 23 to 25 degrees of this bunch, Neptune and Chiron energy isn’t new. However, for all born from 26 to 30 degrees, or the last 4 days, of the fixed signs, this is new energy and it’s confusing, sometimes even debilitating, but ultimately rewarding.

Mars retrograde until March 10 (this cycle started December 20th) is not the best energy for our love relationships, at least in an immediate sense. Ultimately, we are learning how to better assert ourselves and our needs/wants, so whatever we do learn during that period can be used to strengthen our relationships. However, it can be a confusing time for those already experiencing uncertainty in their love lives, because it brings more confusion and mixed signals!

Saturn in Libra for most of the year brings a “meet me halfway” energy to relationships. Saturn will certainly bring tests to partnerships, but these test their foundations, and those with weak foundations are challenged to strengthen them.

Venus retrogrades in the sign of Scorpio from October 8 to November 18, marking this an important time of review and re-assessment of our love relationships. Some of us will be revisiting our past loves–typically in the mind only, but for some, on a physical plane as well. It’s not a good time for major decision making regarding love, as we might regret our choices later.

Wherever we find transiting Pluto in our charts, we can expect some changes and/or drama. Jupiter supports Pluto in February, but Saturn continues to clash with it and an eclipse occurs on the planet in late June.

Jupiter is very busy this year in terms of aspects, perhaps the most exciting of which is a conjunction to electric Uranus twice in 2010 (and then again in early 2011), bringing surprising new experiences and opportunities. The first conjunction occurs very early in the sign of Aries in June, and the second alignment occurs late in the sign of Pisces in September.

Aries in 2010

In 2010, you are learning more about your needs in partnership, dear Aries, while at the same time juggling career changes and discovering your own needs for freedom and self-expression. Particularly for those born early in the sign (March 21-24), the year ahead brings many ups and downs as well as push me/pull me energy. All of you are on the verge of some exciting changes, and 2010 is giving you a preview or taste of things to come.

The beginning of the year, however, starts off on the sluggish side, with Mars, your fiery sign ruler, in retrograde motion. The retrograde officially began on December 20th and officially ends on March 10th, but there is always a bit of a preamble and hangover for retrograde cycles. During this cycle, you are not as much your normal self. You don’t assert yourself or state what it is that you want as directly as you normally do, and you could be withdrawn and introspective, pulling back from life a little as you figure out what it is that you truly want from it. This retrograde occurs in your romance and pleasure sector, so it most definitely affects your love life. You could be re-assessing the ways in which you express yourself creatively, what it is you want from your leisure time, and what it is you want from romance.

Because of the retrograde, Mars spends an unusually long time in your romance sector, until June 7th. From March 10th forward, slowly but surely, you are regaining your confidence–in yourself, and possibly on a romantic level as well.

Another major influence on your love life is Saturn. Saturn entered your opposing sign, Libra, at the end of October 2009, and continues in the sign (and your partnership sector) in 2010, with the exception of April 7-July 21st when it backs up and takes care of unfinished business in your work and health sector. This transit will affect those born from March 21 to April 7 the most in 2010. This is a long-term cycle (about 2.5 years) in which commitment and responsibility to a partner becomes paramount. You may be feeling some pressure from outside sources or from a partner, and some soul-searching is in order. Existing partnerships undergo pressures. These are not random tests of a relationship. This year, conflicts between your career efforts and partnership needs are likely to surface. Complicating matters this summer are your own intense needs for change and freedom.

Venus retrogrades from October 8-November 18. Venus retrogrades can be slow periods for all when it comes to love and money. People are a little more cautious and tight-fisted when it comes to their generosity, with their heart and their money! However, because Venus is your partnership sector ruler, this is a time when a partner could be hard to read, challenged, distant, or aloof. He or she could be turning to the past rather than looking ahead to the future. Past actions come back to visit you, and for some, past lovers reappear in person or in your thoughts to an unusual degree. Karmic circumstances are occurring now. It’s time to re-assess a relationship, and give anyone involved, including yourself, some space. Because this Venus retrograde occurs in your intimacy and partnership sectors, it’s more likely to impact your love life.

There are four Mercury retrograde periods in 2010, and none of them directly affect your love sectors this year.

As mentioned above, those of you born early in the sign of Aries are getting a taste this summer of some big personal changes to come. These changes will affect all Aries at some point, because both Jupiter and Uranus enter Aries this  summer, before retreating back into Pisces for some months. They will both re-enter Aries in 2011. Uranus will stay in the sign for many years to come, and Jupiter will stay in Aries for much of 2011.

Both Jupiter and Uranus are freedom planets. Both challenge us to break free from the ordinary, and to mix up our routines a little (or a lot in the case of Uranus!). Uranus can push you right out of your comfort zones, as it is a planet that is far from subtle. At the same time, you are dealing with a Pluto square that forces you to come face to face with your fears and allows you to tap into your darker side in the process. So, many of you will be pulled in many different directions this year and the next few years, as you struggle with a need for freedom of expression, go through an identity crisis of sorts, and juggle your career, family, and relationships at the same time.

April and September, when Jupiter and Uranus align in your sign and in the sign right behind yours, there are likely to be opportunities that arise that are surprising and attractive, but that also require quite a bit of faith and bravery. Taurus in 2010

In 2010, you are making rich new social connections and friendships and enjoying some level of freedom, dear Taurus. Still, love continues to be a serious matter until September, and you can think of 2010 as a transitional one for close partnerships.

Since Saturn entered Virgo and your romance sector in 2007 (later for those born later in the sign of Taurus), your romantic relationships required some sort of “clean up”. For many of you, a relationship that was previously more on the frivolous or lighthearted side became more serious. In other words, you may have made a stronger commitment to a casual romance! Others met a more mature or serious romantic partner, some felt frustrated that their social life was a little too serious, and some of you ended a relationship that didn’t “cut the mustard”, so to speak. In other words, the relationship didn’t survive the reality tests that faced them. Saturn left the sign of Virgo in October 2009, but will return for a short time in 2010 to complete unfinished business. This will occur between April 7 and July 21. Saturn is the planet of maturity, restriction, and realism, and these themes are active during this window. Gemini in 2010

Your love life is taking on a more serious tone this year, dear Gemini, but it doesn’t mean you won’t be having any fun!

Saturn in your romance sector is an influence that began late last year and continues in 2010 for much of the year. Saturn is actually quite comfortable in Libra, the sign of your romance and pleasure sector, but in at least the first half of 2010 it receives quite a few difficult aspects from other planets, suggesting a possibly challenging transitional period for your love life.

Towards the end of the year, however, you were reminded of your responsibilities, and this second trend continues in 2010 as Saturn works its way further into your sign. Saturn will cover the following range of Libra birthdays in 2010: September 23 to October 10; and will transit conjunct your Ascendant if you have a Libra Ascendant of 0 to 17 degrees.
