While the positions of these planets and cosmic bodies in our natal charts remain static, their positions are always changing in the cosmos, activating houses and hotspots in our natal charts. The horoscopes presented here are necessarily general, as we are focusing on only the Sun sign or Ascendant, and how these sexual cosmic bodies are currently affecting the natal chart.

Libra in 2010

Last year, new avenues for expressing yourself and for having fun opened up to you, dear Libra. Towards the end of the year, however, you were reminded of your responsibilities, and this second trend continues in 2010 as Saturn works its way further into your sign. Saturn will cover the following range of Libra birthdays in 2010: September 23 to October 10; and will transit conjunct your Ascendant if you have a Libra Ascendant of 0 to 17 degrees.

A more serious attitude towards, and outlook on, life in general comes with Saturn’s influence. You are reminded of your responsibilities and you may feel some pressure and stress as you sort out the weaker links in your life. The goal is to strengthen your position in this world, and ultimately build your confidence as a result, but while the transit is happening, many of you could be feeling a little down, over-burdened, or cast aside.

However, this summer, two outer planets move into your opposing sign, and this is certain to shake things up in your relationships, particularly for those born very early in the sign, from September 23-26. All of you will eventually feel this influence’s effects, but many of you only catch a glimpse in 2010 of things to come.

In the summer of 2010 and then during most of the first half of 2011, Jupiter will be moving through your partnership sector. Many Libras will be deriving much joy and pleasure from their partnerships during these periods. Although we generally consider Jupiter to be a largely happy influence, sometimes endings occur under its influence, but generally they are for the better good all around, if they do happen. New partners met now feel much like a breath of fresh air. Challenging relationships or challenges in relationships tend to be left behind for the most part during this trend. It’s a commitment-friendly period for some of you, but for those of you born very early in the sign, Uranus is also a strong influence on your partnerships, and freedom will be more important than commitment to a partner. With the ruler of your romance sector in your partnership sector, however, romantic partners or casual love affairs move away from casual and become more like close partnerships. Some of you will be taking a casual affair to a whole new level, but the rules for this partnership need to be flexible or the relationship is unlikely to survive.

Venus (your planetary ruler) is retrograde this year from October 8-November 18, which affects all of us in general, mainly in the areas of love and finances. These matters are not straightforward during this period, and it is a time for reviewing our attitudes rather than forging ahead boldly into new love relationships or financial projects. Venus retrograde cycles always have more impact on you because Venus is the ruler of your sign. This time around is sort of a “double whammy” because, for some of the retrograde cycle, Venus is occupying your sign. From November 8-18, Venus is retrograde in Libra. As such, for the whole cycle you may be somewhat withdrawn and introspective, as well as cautious with your feelings, but you may be especially so from November 8-18.

The Mars retrograde that is with us at the beginning of 2010 up until March 10th is likely to impact your relationships since Mars is your partnership sector ruler. During this period, a partner might be a little distant, hard to reach, or hard to understand.

With Mars occupying your eleventh house for an unusually long period of time (until June), friendship and partnership are linked. Some of you might be considering bringing a friendship to a new level. Some of you are tired of the tit for tat games in an existing partnership, perhaps feeling like you’re more like adversaries than allies, and are looking to find ways to turn a partnership into a more accepting friendship. This energy could also be coming from a partner–a partner could be resisting traditional commitment “rules”. Certainly, with equality-minded Uranus beginning its trek through your partnership sector, all of you will be exploring alternative ways of relating in the coming years. Attempts to control a partnership or a partner are going to fail. With Mars retrograde in your friendship/ideals sector until March 10th, explore possibilities of improving a partnership, as well as for changing expectations from a partnership, and then work with these new ideas as Mars moves forward in this same sector until June.

With Saturn in your sign opposing Uranus in your partnership sector this year, some of you might find that you are coming down hard on a partner, who reacts by pulling away or rebelling. You might bemoan the fact that partners are unreliable or not responsible enough. Part of 2010 and 2011, Jupiter will be moving through your partnership sector also, helping you to loosen up and accept–even enjoy–the changes brought to partnerships.

You may not find that others are helping you in practical ways now. Instead, you are learning to depend on yourself. However, with an open mind and heart, you might discover that others are helping you to enjoy the fruits of friendship and partnership–the intangibles–and this can be very rewarding, if surprising and not especially “safe” or comfortable feeling.

With Uranus, your romance ruler, changing signs to Aries this year and the next, you will be finding more Aries-like (assertive, independent) people in your love life. In fact, in 2010, Jupiter aligns with Uranus a couple of times, and this brings more fiery energy into your love life. While Uranus was in Pisces for so many years, many Librans found themselves attracted to Pisces-like lovers.

Communication will be the key to love affairs surviving this year. It has to be open and honest, as well as spirited, in order to satisfy your needs.

There are four Mercury retrograde periods this year, none of which directly impact your love life. Eclipses this year are working mostly on stimulating change in your professional and domestic lives.

Eros, the god of erotic love, is in your sign from August 6-September 15. Your powers of attraction run very high during this cycle, but more in terms of you going after what you want than waiting for things to come to you. Sexual activity may be more frequent than usual. An impassioned attitude in general is with you. A more amorous time for a partner occurs when Eros is in Aries, from January 8-February 18. However, this is also a period in which a partner could be giving off mixed signals on the level of feelings.

Venus and Mars both occupy the sign of Libra from August 7-September 9–coinciding with Eros’ travels through your sign! While Mercury is retrograde for part of this time, overall, it’s a smoldering combination for love, sex, and romance!

Key Periods in 2010:

From December 20, 2009 to March 2010, your partnership ruler, Mars, is retrograde, signaling a period of introspection and reflection for a partner, when a partner might be giving out confusing signals.

January 18-February 11, however, is a playful, lighthearted, and magnetic period for love, particularly for casual love affairs. Your powers of attraction run high. Love comes to you rather than your having to pursue it. Best days during this opportunity period are January 22 and February 7-8.

From March 7-31, a partnership is warm, loving, and especially pleasurable.

From April 1-April 25, you attract others like bee to honey with a mysterious, sensual aura that surrounds you. This is a period of the year that is most conducive to erotic pleasure and magnetism.

August 6-September 15 is a period in which your powers of attraction run very high, but more in terms of you going after what you want than waiting for things to come to you. Sexual activity may be more frequent than usual. An impassioned attitude in general is with you. September 5 and 9 especially!

In fact, August 7-September 9 is arguably the most exciting period for love, romance, and sex in 2010, especially August 20th, when Venus conjuncts Mars in your sign; and September 4-5 and 9.

October 8-November 18 is the Venus retrograde period. Don’t make any major decisions about love (and finances) during this cycle. November 8-18, Venus is retrograde in your sign, and you are more cautious with your love and affection.

However, from August 7-September 8, and then from November 8-30, Venus is in your sign. This is a time when the world seems to be speaking, or at least appreciating, your “love language”. It’s a period ripe with opportunity for attracting others, for turning on the charm, and for receiving positive feedback from partners or love interests. Love seems to come to you without the need for your pursuing it. With the possible exception of the retrograde cycle mentioned immediately above, this is a strong period for you for love matters.
