What it Means to
Me: The entire album, Bare, features songs about
lost love, hurts, regrets, and the like, done with the angst and raw
passion that Annie Lennox does so well.
This song, The Saddest Song
I've Got,
is powerful in its plaintiveness. The author is mourning
the loss of a relationship. Most vivid for me is the idea that
although there is "nothing left to say", she
"said it anyway", yet still feels
"unspoken" as she remembers something she still
wants to say. To me, this is an expression of the desire to
hold on, to still want to correct things, but no words will
take away the pain, nor will they mend what has happened
between them. More vivid imagery is in the idea of being
"frozen", not knowing when or how the pain will
subside.
Annie Lennox has a lot of
Capricorn
energy, with her Sun, Moon, Mercury, and North Node in
Capricorn. Her
Venus
in Scorpio is probably a position many astrologers would
guess. That Venus is also conjunct Saturn, square Pluto, and
trine Mars, Uranus, and Jupiter. (There is a wide grand trine
in water signs involving Venus/Saturn, Jupiter/Uranus, and
Mars).
